Football Releases 2023 Season Opponents

Texas State opens the season at Baylor on Sept. 2

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State football will host defending Sun Belt champion Troy, Georgia Southern, Jackson State and Nevada in 2023 as it released its complete list of 12 opponents for the upcoming campaign.
 
The key features of the opponent list include the announcement of the Sun Belt Conference East Division teams that the Bobcats will face as well as showcasing the four nonconference opponents and dates.
 
From the East Division, Texas State will host Georgia Southern and play at Coastal Carolina to fill out its conference slate. The Bobcats will also host West Division foes South Alabama, Troy, and ULM, and they will travel to Arkansas State, Louisiana and Southern Miss.
 
For its nonconference slate, the Bobcats will open the season at Baylor on Sept. 2 and then face UTSA in the Alamodome on Sept. 9. Their home opener will be against Jackson State on Sept. 16 before hosting Nevada on Sept. 23 for their final nonconference game of the season.
 
Texas State and UTSA will meet for the first time since 2020 and reignite the annual I-35 Showdown that will feature alternating home matchups for both sides. The restart in the series is scheduled to run through 2031.
 
The game dates for the 2023 conference schedule will be released on or before March 1 while game times and TV designations will be released later in the spring.
 
Season ticket information for the six home games will be shared in the spring.
 
The 2023 season will mark the first for newly named head coach GJ Kinne. Kinne was named the 21st head coach in program history on Dec. 2.
