FORT WORTH, Texas -- For the third consecutive season, the Texas State football team is bowl bound and headed to the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl to face Rice out of the American Athletic Conference on Friday, January 2. The game is scheduled to kick off at 12:00 p.m. CT from TCU's Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The game is a rematch of the 2023 First Responder Bowl that saw TXST win its first bowl in program history, a 45-21 victory to cap off a historic season. The Bobcats lead the overall series 3-2.

Texas State went on an impressive run to close out the 2025 regular season, winning its final three games to keep its postseason hopes alive, and finished the campaign 6-6 overall. The Bobcats closed out the regular season ranked among the top teams in the FBS, and one of the most explosive in the nation, at eighth in total offense (475.8), 12th in rushing offense (220.5) and 16th in scoring offense (36.1).

Twelve student-athletes earned 13 postseason honors from the Sun Belt Conference, with Dorion Strawn and Beau Sparks leading the way with first-team honors. Brad Jackson, who earned a third-team nod, is also a semifinalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, recognizing the top offensive player with Texas ties.

The Bobcats are 2-0 in bowl games, with 2025 being the fifth season TXST is postseason eligible in the FBS era. Both victories came in back-to-back SERVPRO First Responder Bowls, with wins over Rice and North Texas. Each in front of record-setting crowds at Ford Stadium.

Rice finished the regular season 5-7 and was selected to fill one of the 82 berths after eligible teams made the decision to opt out of postseason play.  The Owls are 7-7 overall in bowl games and will be making their second appearance in the Armed Forces Bowl after defeating Air Force in the 2012 edition.

The game will air on ESPN and fans can listen on KTSW 89.9 and the Varsity Network app.
