LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas State track and field set or matched five school records on Friday at the Red Raider Open, highlighted by redshirt senior
Sedrickia Wynn setting the program record in the women's 60 meter and 60 meter hurdles
Â
The Bobcats, in their second meet of the indoor season, more than doubled their school records set last weekend in Lubbock. Wynn, who set the women's 60-meter hurdle school record a week ago by posting an 8.28 time, reset the top mark in the event by running 8.14 on Friday. She qualified for the finals in the event with a time of 8.32 in the first round, which was third-fastest in school history. She now owns four of the top-five times ever run by a Bobcat in the event.
Â
While Wynn was breaking records in the women's short sprints and hurdles, three Bobcats on the men's side set or matched school records in their respective events.
Daniel Harrold ran 7.80 in the first round of the men's 60-meter hurdles to become the fastest Bobcat in that event while
Dominick Yancy posted a 46.48 in the men's 400 meter to claim that school record.
Bervensky Pierre, meanwhile, ran 20.97 in the 200-meter dash to match Yancy for the school record. Yancy had only set the record six days ago at the Corky Classic in Lubbock.
Â
Overall, Texas State had 12 school top-10 marks on Friday. Wynn, Harrold, Pierre and Yancy combined for 10 of the 12 times while
Ashton Callahan ran 21.26 in the men's 200 meter for the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Â
The men's 4x400 of Yancy,
Taahir Kelly,
Avery Veiseh and
Brian West ran 3:10.76 – which was not only the second-fastest time in school history but the second-quickest by the quartet in the last six days. They set the school-best with a 3:08.23 at the same track last Saturday in the Corky Classic. After no men's 4x400 relay team in Bobcat history had broken the 3:11.00 barrier in the previous 35 years, there have now been two occasions in less than a week.
Â
Other Bobcats claimed personal-bests as well.
Utitofon Sam threw 16.89 meters/55-5 in the women's weight throw to PR and finish seventh while
Dre'Quan Crawford ran 22.32 in the men's 200 meter for an indoor PR. Multis athlete
Simon Thor finished with a time of 8.83 in the first round of the 60-meter hurdles for his fastest time in that event. Callahan (6.82) and Harrold (6.85) ran PRs in the first round of the men's 60 meters.
Â
Texas State will return to the track next weekend by splitting across the Houston Invitational on January 27 and the Texas Tech Open & Multis on January 27 and 28.
