SAN MARCOS, Texas – Saturday, January 21 will be a special afternoon for Texas State men's basketball as the team will honor the 1997 Southland Conference Championship team and unveil the renaming of the court in Strahan Arena to Jeff Foster Court, named after the Bobcat great and member of the 1997 team.
The honorary afternoon will also include free giveaways for the first 500 fans, featuring a commemorative 1997 Southwest Texas State vintage poster as well as a rally towel with the newly named Jeff Foster Court imprinted on it.
Tipoff is set for 4 pm and doors will open at 3 pm. The unveiling of the court name will take place before the game.
Members of the 1997 Bobcat squad will be recognized at halftime. That team finished a perfect 11-0 at home and won the Southland tournament title to earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament.
"We are elated to welcome back members of the landmark 1997 team," said Director of Athletics Don Coryell. "That team was special, from leading scorer Dameon Samson to current assistant coach
Donte Mathis to one of the best Bobcats to ever play for the program in Foster. To have them in one place and be together once again with Bobcat Nation around them will make the night a great one. We are grateful for Jeff and his family's transformational gift to help make the game even more memorable."
Foster, whose No. 42 is retired in the rafters of Strahan Arena, will be among his teammates for the reveal of the new court name. Prior to the tipoff, the court will be officially dedicated in his honor following a gift from himself and his wife, Jamie, made to support the further growth and development of the Texas State men's basketball program.
"Texas State provided me the opportunity to explore my academic interests and develop athletically. Jamie and I look forward to watching current and future Texas State men's basketball players work hard to achieve their goals and feel the support I experienced as a student-athlete," said Foster int eh announcement of his gift to the program in May.
The Bobcats are currently in midst of a three-game winning streak, all on the road, and after this Saturday's contest at ULM, they will return to San Marcos for a three-game homestand. The Louisiana contest will be the middle of the three straight home games.
