Sun Belt Plays Begins Wednesday Against Arkansas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final Sun Belt Conference campaign tips off for Texas State on Wednesday when it hosts Arkansas State. The contest is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. inside Strahan Arena.

About Texas State
The Bobcats look to continue their undefeated run at home, which is currently at eight games. Most recently, the team defeated Southern last Wednesday by a score of 86-83. Mark Drone scored a game-high 23 points for the second straight contest. He was one of five TXST players in double figures along with Jalen Bolden (11), Kyndall Davis (14), Kaden Gumbs (15) and Makai Willis (12).
 
Drone has increased his scoring average to a team leading 13.2 points per game while shooting 48.2% from the field. He has also converted 30-of-39 (76.9%) free throw attempts. DJ Hall is the only other Texas State player with a double-digit scoring mark at 11.8 ppg having knocked down a team best 54.0% of his shots. The Plano, Texas native leads the team and all Sun Belt freshman with 7.3 rebounds per game.
 
Both Dimp Pernell (8.8) and Makai Willis (8.2) are contributing over eight points a contest. Kaden Gumbs enters conference play scoring 7.7 ppg and paces the team with 47 assists and 24 steals.
 
About Arkansas State
The Red Wolves are coming off a 77-76 loss at Rice on Saturday that snapped a four-game winning streak. They are 3-4 on the road with victories over Little Rock, Missouri State and Ohio. ASU wraps up the opening weekend of Sun Belt action with a trip to Southern Miss on Saturday.
 
Four players are averaging at least 10 points a contest led by TJ Caldwell at 11.4 ppg behind a 30-for-35 (85.7%) performance at the charity stripe. Joining him are Jaxon Ellingsworth (10.7), Matt Hayman (10.5) and Chandler Jackson (10.8). Leading the team in rebounding is Jalen Hampton at 7.1 boards a contest.
 
Series History vs. Red Wolves
Texas State leads the all-time series 13-8 but Arkansas State has won the last four meetings. From Feb. 28, 2015 to Feb. 9, 2023, the Bobcats won 13 of 14 contests.
 
When playing in San Marcos, TXST is 7-3 all-time. Last season saw the Red Wolves win 85-74 while the last victory for the Bobcats was a 66-62 contest on Feb. 9, 2023.
