Trip to Mississippi on Tap for Bobcats

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The first-ever trip to the state of Mississippi for the Texas State soccer team (8-1-2, 2-0-1 Sun Belt) will see it play Sun Belt Conference newcomer Southern Miss (1-5-2, 1-1-1 Sun Belt) on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. at the USM Track & Soccer Complex.
 
Fans can catch the match on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
 
About Texas State
Last weekend saw the Bobcats go 1-0-1 with a 1-1 draw at Georgia Southern before jumping out to an early lead and never looking back in a 4-1 victory over ULM at home Sunday afternoon. The results keep TXST tied atop the league's West Division standings with South Alabama with seven points apiece.
 
Madi Goss recorded a hat trick against the Warhawks to earn Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. She now has a team-high six goals, which is tied for the second most in the conference and tied for 37th in the nation.
 
Zoe Junior has netted four goals with all of them being match-winners to tie for third in the country. Scoring two goals each has been Bailey Peschel, Addison Peters and Olivia Wright.
 
Coming in with a team leading four assists is Juana Plata after she assisted on three of the team's five goals from this past weekend. Mya Ulloa is the only other Bobcat with multiple assists on the year with two.
 
Katelyn Chrisman sports a 1.11 GAA with 30 saves and a .732 save percentage over 10 matches this season.
 
About Southern Miss
The Golden Eagles started last weekend with a 4-1 loss at ULM before coming back and completing a scoreless draw against East Division leader James Madison in Hattiesburg. USM started conference action with a 3-1 road victory against Marshall. All five of the Eagles' non-conference contests came against SEC programs with the finale being a 0-0 contest versus Ole Miss.
 
All five the USM's goals have come from a different player. Ilana Izquierdo has one of the tallies along with a team best two assists. Also assisting on a tally and scoring once has been Esmeralda Figueroa and Bernadett Stefan.
 
In goal, Alex Helbling has started the past six matches. She comes in with a 1.67 GAA, 31 saves and a .756 save percentage to go along with two shutouts. Lena Blake started the opener at Auburn but was pulled after 70:26 after surrendering seven goals and making two stops. Kesaia Brunit played the final 19:34 against the Tigers and all 90 minutes at Alabama. She sports a 3.29 GAA with 12 saves and a .750 save percentage.
 
All-Time Series
Saturday will be the second meeting between the programs and first as conference foes. The only other contest ended in a 1-1 draw that was played in New Orleans on the campus of Tulane on Aug. 31, 2003.
