SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State baseball alum
Zachary Leigh was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League as the rosters were announced by Major League Baseball last week.

Leigh, who played for the Bobcats from 2017-21, compiled a 12-13 record with six saves, 4.60 ERA and 204 strikeouts over 221.1 innings over 70 games in his time in San Marcos. He is one of 10 TXST hurlers to every surpass 200 career strikeouts with his total ranking eighth in program history.

All six of his saves came in 2019 as he helped Texas State claim its first-ever Sun Belt Conference regular season title. The last two saves came in a doubleheader sweep of rival UT Arlington to clinch the title outright at Bobcat Ballpark on the final weekend of the regular season.

Leigh was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round with 484th overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft. In his two professional seasons, he has gone 2-0 with five saves, 2.49 ERA and 70 strikeouts over 43.1 innings spanning 32 relief appearances. This year has seen the right-hander pitch in 17 games at South Bend (High-A) and come in for 10 contests at Tennessee (AA).

The Victoria, Texas native has been assigned to the Mesa Solar Sox and will be playing alongside prospects from the Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.

Play in the Valley of the Sun begins on Oct. 3 and runs through the championship game on Nov. 12.
