Bobcats Ready to Host UTA for First Home Match of the Season

SAN MARCOS, Texas- Women's tennis (3-6, 1-0) hosts UT Arlington (11-1, 0-0) Wednesday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex for their first home match of the season. 
 
"We are very excited to be playing at home and finally getting to play in front of friendly fans," said Texas State women's tennis head coach Tory Plunkett. "We have six new players, and they are anxious to play their first home match. We are ready for UTA."
 
The last time the Bobcats and Mavericks met was last season in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, where Texas State lost 4-0 in the quarterfinals.
 
The Bobcats
Texas State played Arkansas State Friday, March 4 and opened conference play with a 5-2 win against the Red Wolves. Fifth-year senior Hana Kvapilova snapped the Bobcats four-match losing streak with her 6-4, 7-5 win in the No. 1 singles match.
 
Kvapilova is 5-4 in No. 1 singles, freshmen Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora have been making their impact on the court as well. They both had wins in their singles matches against Arkansas State.
 
The Mavericks
UT Arlington is coming off a two-match homestand where they beat Houston, 4-3, and Wichita State, 4-0. Their one loss of the season is against SMU, 4-0 in Dallas. 
 
Liz Chileno is 12-4 in No. 1 singles, is 8-0 in in No. 2 doubles when paired with Ana Paula Jimenez.
 
Last season the Mavericks were 18-4 overall, and 8-0 in the conference.
