Bobcat Baseball Picked Seventh in Sun Belt Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW ORLEANS – In the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, the Texas State baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the 12-team league.
 
The Bobcats totaled 71 points in the coaches poll and are coming off a 21-36 season. TXST returns 25 players that includes 15 pitchers and five starting fielders. A total of 18 newcomers join the squad with 15 of them being true freshmen. The freshmen class is the best in program history coming in ranked first in the Sun Belt, fourth in the state of Texas and 33rd in the nation by Perfect Game.
 
South Alabama claimed the top spot in the preseason poll with 139 points and seven first-place votes. Georgia Southern was second with 118 points and edge out both Coastal Carolina and Louisiana, which both finished with 117 points and picked up three and two first-place selections, respectively.
 
Coming in just ahead of the Bobcats was UT Arlington (78) in fifth and Troy (74) in second. Placing eight was Little Rock with 63 points, followed by ULM with 58 points and App State at 38 points. Rounding out the poll was Georgia State (34) and Arkansas State (28).
 
The season begin on Friday, Feb. 18 when Texas State welcomes Utah Valley to town for a four-game series.
