Tennis On the Road for Northwestern State and Louisiana Tech

SAN MARCOS, Texas- After two weeks of no matches, women's tennis (2-2) is back in action as they travel to Northwestern State (2-2) on Saturday Feb. 12, and Louisiana Tech (4-2) Sunday Feb. 13. 
 
The last time the Bobcats played was Jan. 28 and 29 where they won their first two matches of the season 4-3 over Stephen F. Austin and Jackson State, and Mae McCutcheon earned the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Only the second time a tennis player has earned the honor since joining the conference.  
 
McCutcheon clinched the match at SFA and went undefeated in singles on the weekend of play. Hana Kvapilova also went undefeated in her singles matches in flight No. 1 against SFA and JSU. Sofia Fortuno clinched the fourth singles match point in flight No. 4 against SFA. 
 
Texas State was scheduled to play at Prairie View A&M Feb. 1 but was rescheduled for Feb. 16 due to weather. 
 
Northwestern State
The Bobcats and Lady Demons will have their 18th meeting on Saturday, with Northwestern holding the series 10-7. The last matchup was Feb. 15, 2020, where Northwestern won 7-0 on their home courts.
 
Northwestern State has two 6-1 wins over UT Tyler and Loyola-New Orleans, and two 4-0 losses against TCU and Tulane. Last season, the Lady Demons were 7-9 overall, and 5-5 in the Southland Conference
 
Head Coach Jonas Brobeck enters his second season, with a nationally acclaimed recruiting class. In his first full recruiting season, Brobeck brought in the No. 9 recruiting class by mid-majors, according to TennisRecruiting.net.
 
The recruits are No. 40 ranked Tjasa Klevisar, 411th ranked Ayu Ishibashi among juniors by the ITF, and Rozalie Dohnalova the No. 2,061 player according to WTT.
 
Texas State will play Northwestern State Saturday Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. in Natchitoches, La. at the Jack Fisher Lady Demon Complex.
 
Louisiana Tech
This will be the 8th matchup between the Bobcats and Lady Techsters. The last meeting was in 2018 where Louisiana Tech won 4-1. 
 
Louisiana Tech has two losses on this season, 7-0 at Tulsa and 4-3 at Stephen F. Austin. They won their last two matches against ULM 4-3, and McNeese State 4-0. Last season the team went 9-11 overall, and 1-4 in Conference USA. 
 
Texas State will play Louisiana Tech Sunday Feb. 13 at 11 a.m. in Ruston, La. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
