Women’s basketball to close out non-conference slate with back-to-back home contests

SAN MARCOS, TX — With one-third of its 2022-23 season already completed, the Texas State women's basketball program will conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule when the Bobcats host Houston Christian and UNT Dallas this week.

The Huskies will visit Strahan Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 20 for a contest at 5:00 p.m. CT, before the Trailblazers visit San Marcos for a 1 p.m. tip time on Thursday, Dec. 22.

Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox will call both non-conference games on ESPN+.

WHO'S WHO?
  • Houston Christian:
    • When the two women's basketball programs take the court inside Strahan Arena Tuesday afternoon, Texas State will be looking to become the first program to win three consecutive games during the six-game series history.
    • Texas State has not lost to Houston Christian in San Marcos since Nov. 22, 2014, when the Huskies knocked off the Bobcats 61-56.
    • Eight Texas State women's basketball student-athletes have played against Houston Christian during their Bobcat careers: Lauryn Thompson, Da'Nasia Hood, Kennedy Taylor, Ja'Kayla Bowie, Chelsea Johnson, Sierra Dickson, Tianna Eaton and Nicole Leff
    • When the two programs faced off on Dec. 2, 2021, it marked the first meeting between Texas State and Houston Christian since Dec. 16, 2015. In last season's meeting Lauryn Thompson paced the Bobcats with a team-leading 14 points as Texas State held on during the fourth quarter for a 58-54.
      • In last season's matchup, Timia Jefferson, who was then a member of the Huskie program, scored 14 points, pulled down five rebounds, credited with five steals and dished out two assists in 31 minutes of game action.
  • UNT Dallas
    • When then Texas State and UNT Dallas women's basketball teams take the court on Thursday, Dec. 22, it will mark the first-ever collegiate basketball game between the two universities.
NO-NO-NO
  • With her next block, sixth-year guard Tianna Eaton will be credited with 13 blocks just 10 games into the 2022-23.
    • Eaton's 13 blocks will be the most by a Texas State women's basketball student-athlete since Ti'Aira Pitts was credited with 37 during the 2017-18. Pitts is currently a graduate assistant on Bobcat coaching staff.
      • The program's single season block record is 98, held by Melinda Hieber during the 1990-91 season.
FROM DEEEP
  • Fifth-year senior guard Kennedy Taylor is well on her way to leading the Texas State women's basketball program in made 3-point field goal attempts for the third consecutive seasons.
    • Through nine games this season, Taylor has connected on 15 of her 30 shots from behind the 3-point arc, five more than teammate Tianna Eaton
    • As a junior, Taylor connected on 32 3-points (three more than Da'Nasia Hood) before hitting 43 (eight more than Hood) last season.
LET'S KEEP GOING
  • With her 3-pointer less than a minute into the fourth quarter on last Friday's game, Tianna Eaton extended the Bobcats streak of consecutive games played with at least one made 3-pointer to 103 straight games dating back to a game against Georgia State on Jan. 24, 2019, a span on 1,427 when the Bobcats take the court on Tuesday afternoon.
