SAN MARCOS, TX — Tuesday night will mark the third regular-season contest for the Texas State women's basketball program and the Bobcats will be looking for third win when Arlington Baptist travels to San Marcos.
The two teams, which met for the first time ever during the 2021-22 season, will collide, again, on the basketball court at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Brant Freeman (play by play) and Suzanne Fox (analyst) will call the game's action on ESPN+.
I WAS BORN OF THE ICE AND SNOW
- Texas State has won the only matchup between the two women's basketball programs after the Bobcats knocked off the Patriots, 93-23, on Nov. 29, 2021.
- In that contest, three Texas State student-athletes finished with double-doubles: Da'Nasia Hood (21 points, 13 rebounds), Lauryn Thompson (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Gabby Standifer (10 points, 11 rebounds).
- No active student-athlete within the Texas State women's basketball program has spent more than 20 minutes on the floor against Arlington Baptist.
- Having played 18 minutes against the Patriots last season, Kennedy Taylor and Sierra Dickson have the active career minutes leader in games played against Arlington Baptist.
- Last season, Texas State finished with five student-athletes in double figures against Arlington Baptist: Da'Nasia Hood (21), Lauryn Thompson (16), Nicole Leff (11), Sierra Dickson (10) and Gabby Standifer (10).
WITH THE WINTER WOLVES, IN THE DARK ALONE
- Kennedy Taylor's countdown is now in single digits as the fifth-year senior guard needs only six more assists to pass Shelly Borton (1986-90) for the program's all-time career assist leader.
Texas State Career Assist Leaderboard
- Shelly Borton (1986-90) – 595
- Kennedy Taylor (2018-P) - 590
THE WILDEST NIGHT, I BECAME THE ONE
- Texas State's fifth-year guard Kennedy Taylor will enter Tuesday night's game against Arlington Baptist looking to become the only active Division I women's basketball student-athlete with 600-or-more career assists.
- Taylor is the also the NCAA Division I active career leader with 590 career assists.
- The next closest Sun Belt student-athlete is Old Dominion's Makayla Dickens, who has 366 career assists.
NCAA Division I Active Career Assist Leaderboard
- Kennedy Taylor, Texas State – 590
- Elisa Pinzan, Maryland – 557
- Dru Gylten, South Dakota State – 554
- Destiney Philoxy, Massachusetts – 535
- Haylee Andrews, Portland – 525
AND YOU'LL KNOW YOU'RE MIND WHEN THE SILENCE COMES
- A win over Arlington Baptist would give Texas State its best start to a season since the 2011-12 campaign, when the Bobcats started 3-0.
- A Bobcat victory would mark the sixth 3-0 start in program history, two of which have occurred under head coach Zenarae Antoine.
HEAVY IS THE CROWN, ONLY FOR THE WEAK
- While Kennedy Taylor is looking to move into the program's top spot on the career assist leaderboard, the 5-foot-3 guard is quickly climbing up the program's career scoring list, too, as a hot start to her fifth season.
- In just two games so far this season, Taylor has scored a team-leading 33 points on 50 percent shooting.
- Taylor opened the 2022-23 season 19th on the program's scoring list with 1,019 points but has passed Pat Gamble (1976-79) for 18th.
- She will pass Janet Link (1973-77) when she scores 10 more points.
