SAN MARCOS, Texas – At the first and only fall home tournament of the season,
Kiana Graham won the top singles flight while
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon secured the top doubles flight at the TXST Fall Invite.
"It was a good weekend for the Bobcats, it's always fun to host a tournament with people coming out to support," said Head Coach
Kendall Brooks. "We got a lot of matches in which is the goal of the fall and got to compete and see what we need to work on for the spring. Now we will go into offseason training where we can break down some things and work on things individually to have a great season."
Singles
Kiana Graham won all three of her singles matches to win the top flight of the invitational. On day one of the TXST Fall Invite she defeated her opponents from UTRGV in round one and McNeese in round two in straight sets. It was in the final round today where she secured the flight against Sofia Salcedo from UIW 7-5, 3-6, 10-5.
Sofia Fortuno also won all three of her matches on court five, two in straight sets and her round three match 6-3, 3-6, 10-3.
Kate Malazonia picked up a big singles match win on line three on the final day 6-7 (3), 7-5, 10-3 over Ine Lamprecht from UIW.
Maria Lora,
Jadeh Chan,
Jacqueline Schnabel, and
Andrea Pineda all collected two singles match wins in the tournament.
Doubles
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon won the top flight for doubles. The British duo defeated UIW and McNeese with a quick 6-2 set in rounds one and three. To start the second day, the pair battled McNeese and came out on top 6-4. They were the only doubles team for Texas State to put up a win in round one.
In round two of doubles
Sofia Fortuno and
Andrea Pineda won 6-3 against McNeese on line two and recorded another win against UTRGV 6-1 to end the day.
For the final round
Jadeh Chan and
Kiana Graham got their lone doubles win over UTRGV 6-2.

Texas State will return to competition on Jan. 27 in Huntsville, Texas to take on Sam Houston at 1 p.m. The following day the Bobcats travel to compete at Houston at 12 p.m.
