SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State finished 12
th at the Jim West Challenge on the Kissing Tree Golf Course, while
Marine Griffaut and
Mattingly Palmer ended the tournament in the top-25.
"I think we played well the last two rounds," said Texas State women's golf head coach
Par Nilsson. "Getting the chance to host a tournament with support from the West family is an amazing opportunity not just for Texas State but also women's collegiate golf. It opens a lot of doors to other tournaments to compete at this level."
TEAM
The Bobcats were consistent on the last day of the Jim West Challenge to finish 12
th in a field on 15 teams, the same position they entered the final round.
They shot three-over 291, their second lowest round in the tournament. Texas State finished 21-over par and three strokes ahead of No. 33 New Mexico.
No. 27 Oklahoma State won the team championship nine-under 855. 15 teams, eight ranked in the top-50, represented eight conferences across the country.
INDIVIDUAL
Junior
Marine Griffaut saw the largest jump of the day for the Bobcats, moving up 16 spots for a five-way tie for 21
st. Griffaut shot three-under 69 in the final round with two back-to-back birdies on the front nine. She recorded her second 69 round of the season and was two strokes shy of reaching a new personal 54-hole total low this season.
Mattingly Palmer fell 17 spots from her top-5 finish on day one after having five bogeys and a double bogey. The sophomore did have two birdies and managed to stay in the top-25 shooting one-over par.
Junior
Federica Tavelli-Westerlund was the only additional Texas State player to find herself moving up on the leaderboard in the third round. She advanced five spots and tied for 43
rd after shooting one-over with four birdies.

With a one-week turnaround, the Bobcats will travel to Miami, Florida for The Hurricane Invitational hosted by Miami. The two-day tournament will take place on Oct. 31- Nov. 1 at the Biltmore Golf Course.
