San Marcos, Texas- Texas State women's tennis (0-2) travels to Nacogdoches to compete against Stephen F. Austin (0-0) and Jackson State (0-0) Jan. 28 and 29 at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
In the pair of losses on the previous weekend, transfer
Mae McCutcheon and freshman
Sofia Fortuno made their marks as official Bobcats. McCutcheon went 7-5, 6-2 in her singles match against No. 1 Texas, and Fortuno had a 6-3, 6-2 loss at No. 13 Texas A&M.
Friday's Match
The Bobcats enter Friday's match looking to bounce back from their pair of 7-0 losses at Texas A&M and Texas on Jan. 22 and 23.
The SFA Ladyjacks start their season by hosting Texas State, after what would have been their first match of the season against Prairie View A&M was postponed. Last season the Ladyjacks were 11-10 overall, and 4-7 in the Southland Conference.
This will be the 16
th meeting of the programs, with Texas State leading 10-5. Friday's matches on Jan. 28 between Texas State and SFA will start at 1 p.m.
Saturday's Match
This will be the first meeting between the Bobcats and the Tigers, and this will be the first match of the season for Jackson State.
In fall play, the Tigers finished in second place at the HBCU National Championships. Last season the tigers were 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Jackson State is entering the season with a young team of five freshman on the roster.
The match between Texas State and Jackson State will take place on Saturday Jan. 29 at 11 a.m.
What's Next
The Bobcats play four contests on the road following Saturday's match, before hosting Sam Houston on Feb. 25. Before home play begins, Texas State will compete at Prairie View A&M Feb. 2, Northwestern State on Feb. 12, Louisiana Tech Feb. 13, and Rice Feb. 18.
