Battle with Cajuns on Tap for Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Coming off its first conference win of the season, the Texas State men's basketball team (10-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) closes out the weekend with a game that is sure to be a battle against Louisiana (8-6, 3-1 Sun Belt) on Saturday. Tip is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside Strahan Arena.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox on the call. Fans can also catch the action on the Varsity Sports Network and KTSW 89.9 FM with Clint Shields.
 
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
After his 19-point performance, Caleb Asberry upped his points per game mark to 13.7. He is shooting 44.3% from the field and has knocked down a team leading 28 three-pointers. Isiah Small paces the Bobcats at 7.0 rpg and is contributing 11.4 ppg. Also averaging in double-figures is Mason Harrell at 10.2 ppg. Shelby Adams is inching closer to a double-digit scoring average as well at 9.6 while making 54.8% of his shots.
 
SCOUTING LOUISIANA
Louisiana is coming off a 10-point loss at UT Arlington Thursday night. The Ragin' Cajuns have Sun Belt wins over Appalachian State, Arkansas State and Coastal Carolina. Three players are averaging double-figures in scoring led by Jordan Brown at 14.3 ppg. Kobe Julien is adding 10.6 pgg and Theo Akwuba comes in at 10.4 ppg, but he missed the game against the Mavericks due to COVID protocols. Akwuba leads the team at 8.8 rpg and is followed closely by Brown at 8.6 rpg. The trio of Akwuba, Brown and Julien have combined for 49 of the Cajuns' 68 blocks.
 
SERIES HISTORY
The all-time series is in Louisiana's favor 15-5 after it won three of four games last season. Those three victories were by a combined nine points with the two in San Marcos being decided by a total of three points. TXST's lone win last year came on Jan. 2 on the road by a 71-59 score. That night saw Small score 18 points while the Bobcats held the Cajuns to just 34.6% shooting.
