Sophomores Shine in Bobcats' Season Opener Victory over Islanders

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomores Robert Fields set career highs in points, field goals, steals and minutes in his first career start, and DJ Hall added a game-high 18 points as Texas State opened its first season in the Pac-12 with a 67-55 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday night at Strahan Arena.

The Bobcats scored the game's first 12 points, six of them from Fields on two dunks and a layup, and never trailed. Texas State built a lead as large as 15 in the first half and took a 35-26 advantage into the break.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi got within 57-51 on a putback with four minutes remaining, but Paul Djobet answered with a layup, Hall added a jumper and two free throws, and Fields put it away with a dunk off a Hall assist for a 65-55 lead with less than two minutes remaining.

Hall shot 6-of-12 from the field and added five rebounds, three assists and no turnovers. Fields finished with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and three steals, topping his previous career high of 15 at South Alabama last season. Djobet and Quel'Ron House each scored eight points in their Texas State debuts, and freshman David Abisogun recorded his first career points knocking down a pair of free throws in the first half.

The Bobcats shot 49.0 percent from the field and assisted on 13 of their 24 baskets. On the other end, they held the Islanders (0-1) to 3-of-17 shooting from beyond the arc and turned 15 turnovers into 14 points.
