SAN ANGELO, Texas– Hana Kvapilova won Flight 1 to lead the Texas State women's tennis team at the Angelo State Slam Fest Tournament on September 10-11 at the ASU Tennis Courts and Bentwood Country Club.
Kvapilova won the No. 1 Flight with a pair of singles victories to lead the Bobcats. She began the day with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Allison Stewart of Abilene Christian before winning the finals match in the flight with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph over Abilene Christian's Maryjoe Crisologo.
Rishona Israel-Lewis advanced to the semifinals of the No. 1 Flight before dropping a three-set decision against Crisologo by a score of 3-6, 6-3, 10-8. She also dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Stewart in the third-place match.
The Bobcats also had two second-place finishes and two third-place showings in other flights at the tournament.
Kate Malazonia had a second-place finish in the No. 2 Flight after splitting a pair of singles matches on Saturday. She won her first match of the day against Ena Ovcina of Angelo State in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 10-7. Then, she fell 6-4, 6-3 versus Abilene Christian's Illeana Mocciola in the No. 2 Flight Final.
Mae McCutcheon finished seventh in Flight 2 with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Natalia Komar of Tarleton State after dropping a 6-4, 7-5 decision against Elsa Boisson of Tarleton State.
Sofia Fortuno had a third-place finish in Flight 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sydney Wahl of Southwestern University after falling 7-6, 6-2 against Eva Arranz in a semifinal match.
Maria Lora was fifth in Flight 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Celia Vaudiau and a 7-6 (2), 7-6 (7) victory against Lydia Lee of Southwestern.
Jadeh Chan finished second in Flight 4 with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Alli Ziehm of Angelo State in the semifinals before dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision against ACU's Paula Garrote.
Renata Gonzalez had a third-place finish in Flight 4 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Alli Ziehm of Angelo State after falling in three sets in a semifinal match against Garrote.
Kylee Shannon finished with a 2-2 record in Flight 5, and
Chacadyah Israel-Lewis was 1-3 in Flight 6.
Texas State returns home to host the Texas Play Day Tournament on Oct. 2-3.
