SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team official kicks off the 2021 regular season Friday night at Incarnate Word. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Gayle and Tom Benson Stadium.

About Texas State
The Bobcats played I-35 rival UTSA in an exhibition match last Thursday with the contest ending in a scoreless draw.
Kiara Gonzales paced Texas State with two of the team's five shot attempts. In between the posts,
Beth Agee made four saves and
Katelyn Chrisman stopped three shots.
TXST returns 19 players from last season and welcome eight newcomers. Gonzales is the top returner after finding the back of the net two times. She and
Olivia Wright were both credited with two assists.
About Incarnate Word
Incarnate Word finished the 2020-21 season with a 6-5-3 record with a 5-3-3 mark in the Southland Conference. The Cardinals were picked up finish tied for second with Northwestern State in the seven team SLC.
UIW dropped both of its exhibition matches. The Cardinals fell 3-1 at home to UTSA and dropped a 1-0 contest at Houston.
All 11 starters are back for UIW along with 19 total players. Hannah Walsh led the team with four goals with two coming on penalty kicks. Sierra Wannamaker tallied three goals and a team-high two assists. She also led the squad with 40 shots and placed 20 on goal.
Margaret Kofron played in all 14 matches and made 12 starts in goal. She posted a 0.82 GAA and a .738 save percentage with 31 stops.
All-Time Series
Just once before have the teams met on the pitch in the regular season. Texas State claimed a 1-0 victory on Aug. 23, 2019 in San Marcos. The lone goal came from
Bailey Peschel when she knocked home a cross from
Karlee Torisk in the 39th minute.
The teams have met twice in exhibition matches with both taking place in the Alamo City. The Bobcats won 3-0 in 2018 and played to a 1-1 draw in 2016.
