Baseball Closes Out Regular Season at Coastal Carolina

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (21-31, 9-12 Sun Belt) wraps up the regular season this weekend with a trip to Coastal Carolina (23-23, 6-12 Sun Belt). Games on Friday and Saturday at Springs Brooks Stadium are scheduled to start at 5 p.m. CT and Saturday's first pitch is slated for 1 p.m. CT.
 
All three games will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will also be available.
 
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Thursday: Zachary Leigh (4-6, 5.24 ERA) vs. Shaddon Peavyhouse (2-2, 3.89 ERA)
Friday: Zeke Wood (3-5, 4.45 ERA) vs. Daniel Kreuzer (1-1, 4.06 ERA)
Saturday: TBD vs. TBD
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Justin Thompson leads TXST with a .299 batting average, 59 hits and 36 RBI. He has also hit five home runs and scored 27 times. Only player to have come around to score more often this season has been Will Hollis (30) and Dalton Shuffield (29). Cole Coffey and Hollis hit their ninth and eighth homers, respectively, this season last weekend against Georgia State.
 
Scheduled to take the rubber on Thursday is Zachary Leigh. He is 4-6 with a 5.24 ERA and his 77 strikeouts are tied for the fifth most in the Sun Belt Conference. Zeke Wood gets the call for Friday's contest as he enters with a 3-5 record, 4.45 ERA and 51 strikeouts. Sunday's starter is to be determined.
 
ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
Coastal Carolina heads into the weekend having lost five of its last seven games. The Chanticleers are coming off a 14-9 win at home over Wake Forest on Tuesday to improve their home record to 12-11.
 
Parker Chavers leads the team with a .309 batting average, 54 hits, 10 steals and a .396 OB%. He has also driven in 30 runs, scored 25 times, hit 11 doubles, five homers and two triples. Eric Brown sports a team-high eight home runs, 35 RBI, 34 runs scored and a .500 SLG%. BT Riopelle has cranked seven homers but has struck out 67 times, the most in the conference.
 
Getting the start on Thursday will be Shaddon Peavyhouse, who is 2-2 with a 3.89 ERA, one save and 42 strikeouts in 39.1 innings. He has appeared in 18 games and made two starts. Daniel Kreuzer is slated to start on Friday and has a 1-1 record, two saves, a 4.06 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 31 frames spanning 15 appearances including two starts. Saturday's starter is to be determined.
 
SERIES VS. THE CHANTICLEERS
The all-time series sees CCU lead 5-3 over Texas State. The Bobcats are winless in Conway, South Carolina where the previous four meetings have taken place. Last game between the teams saw the Chanticleers win 13-4 on May 23, 2019 in an elimination game in the Sun Belt Championship.
 
Texas State's victories have been in San Marcos (2) and Statesboro, Georgia (1). All three came during the 2017 season.
