SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (13-17, 3-6 Sun Belt) travels to the state of Alabama to take on Troy (13-14, 2-4 Sun Belt) for a weekend series at Riddle-Pace Field.

Friday's series opener is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday's game will see first pitch at 4 p.m. and the series finale on Sunday is slated to begin at 11 a.m.

The Bobcats claimed its first true road win of the season on Tuesday at UT Rio Grande Valley by the score of 7-4. Both
Jose Gonzalez and
Justin Thompson were 2-for-2 at the plate and
Chase Evans added two hits as well.
Jonathan Martinez and
Otto Wofford, who picked up the win, threw two scoreless innings apiece while
Tristan Stivors pitched a perfect ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Gonzalez enters the series hitting .474 (9-for-19) over his last five games. Of his nine base knocks, seven of them have been for extra-bases as he has recorded three doubles, two triples and two home runs while driving in five runs. Thompson ranks second in the Sun Belt Conference with 41 hits and 28 RBI while leading TXST with a .353 average and 18 runs scored.

Zachary Leigh, the reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, will get the ball on Friday. He is 1-4 with a 5.09 ERA in 40.2 innings. The Victoria, Texas native's 44 strikeouts are the fifth most in the league.

Garett Herrmann moves up into starting Saturday's game after making his three previous starts on Sundays. The right-hander is 3-0 on the year with a 2.88 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 25 innings. The starter for the series finale is still to be announced.

ABOUT TROY
Troy comes into the weekend having lost four straight after falling 4-3 on a walk-off single at Samford on Tuesday. The Trojans were swept last weekend at South Alabama. At home, Troy is 12-6 on the year.

Drew Frederic leads the team with a .355 batting average, 38 hits and 10 stolen bases. He has also scored 21 times, driven in 12 runs, hit six doubles and four home runs. Logan Cerney leads the Sun Belt Conference with 11 homers, 31 RBI and 25 runs scored while batting .348 with seven doubles and has swiped seven bags.

Rigsby Mosley comes in hitting .304 and is pacing the team with nine doubles while scoring 20 times, plating 10 runs and stealing four bases. Also with double-digit RBI totals is Caleb Bartolero (16), Dalton Sinquefield (19) and William Sullivan (10).

Slated to start on Friday is Orlando Ortiz. The right-hander is 2-3 with a 6.38 ERA and a team-high 39 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. Garrett Gainous will be the called upon to start game two and comes in at 4-2 with a 4.78 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 37.2 frames. The series finale starter is scheduled to be Bay Witcher, who has thrown 34 innings. He is 3-2 with a 3.44 ERA and has struck out 21.

SERIES VS. THE TROJANS
Troy leads the all-time series 12-6. Texas State won the last meeting on Apr. 6, 2019 in San Marcos 8-7 in 10 innings on a
John Wuthrich walk-off single. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Trojans.

When playing Troy on the road, the Bobcats are winless in six games. The last series in Troy took place Apr. 21-22, 2017.
