Key Series at Louisiana on Tap

SAN MARCOS, Texas – A key Sun Belt Conference series for Texas State (17-25, 7-8 Sun Belt) sees the team travel to Louisiana (22-18, 8-7 Sun Belt) this weekend. The Ragin' Cajuns are a game ahead of the Bobcats in the West Division standings and both teams are still in striking distance of the divisional lead.
 
Friday's first pitch is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+. It will be the only contest of the weekend that will have video. Saturday and Sunday are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. Live stats will be available for the entire series.
 
PROBABLE STARTING PITCHERS
Friday: Zachary Leigh, RHP (3-5, 5.43 ERA) vs. Spencer Arrighetti, RHP (6-3, 2.01 ERA)
Saturday: Zeke Wood, RHP (2-3, 4.15 ERA) vs. Connor Cooke, RHP (4-2, 2.17 ERA)
Sunday: Tony Robie (0-1, 3.80 ERA) vs. TBA
 
LAST TIME OUT
TXST's offense was stifled at Texas A&M as it was limited to five hits in a shutout loss. It was a bullpen day on the mound as seven Bobcat pitchers saw action with none going more than two innings. Austin Smith made his first career start and struck out two. Also recording two strikeouts in the game was Cade Medlin in his inning of work.
 
ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Justin Thompson's 2-for-4 night in College Station increased his team leading batting average to .313. He also leads the team with 50 hits, 33 RBI, and 24 runs scored. In his four games since his return from injury, John Wuthrich has gone 1-for-4 at the plate in each contest. The junior outfielder has also scored two runs, drawn two walks, stolen two bases and driven in a run.
 
The weekend starting rotation remains the same as last week with Zachary Leigh starting on Friday. He will be followed by Zeke Wood and Tony Robie is slated for his second straight Sunday start.
 
ABOUT LOUISIANA
Louisiana is coming off a 7-6 loss at home on Tuesday to ULM in a non-conference game. The Ragin' Cajuns are 15-7 at home this year with a 4-2 mark in conference play.
 
Ben Fitzgerald leads UL with a .321 batting average, 43 hits, 23 RBI, 14 doubles and 11 home runs. Also batting over .300 is Drake Osborn with a .315 average. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi transfer has scored 17 times, plated 16 runs and drawn 16 walks while striking out 10 times.
 
Tyler Robertson leads the team with 14 stolen bases and has hit six homers with 18 RBI. Also swiping double-digit bases has been Carson Roccaforte with 11.
 
Getting the ball on the Friday will be Spencer Arrighetti. The right-hander is 6-3 with a 2.01 ERA over 58.1 innings. His 64 strikeouts are tied for the most on the team with Connor Cooke, who will start Saturday's contest. He is 4-2 on the year with a 2.17 ERA in 45.1 innings. Sunday's starter is to be announced.
 
SERIES VS. THE RAGIN' CAJUNS
The Cajuns lead the all-time series 22-16. However, Texas State has won the last six meetings with the last four taking place in Lafayette.
 
With a series sweep in the last meeting between the teams (Apr. 26-28, 2019), the Bobcats improved to 8-12 all-time when playing on the road against Louisiana.
