Box Score HOUSTON – The Texas State baseball team (4-8) fell 10-0 in eight innings to TCU (8-2) during the second day of the Shriners Hospital for Children College Classic Saturday night at Minute Maid Park.
Trevis Sundgren (0-2) took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits and two walks in four innings while striking out three. Russell Smith (2-0) threw six shutout innings with 13 strikeouts to pick up the win.
Other pitchers to see action on the mound for the Bobcats were
Cade Bullinger (0.0 IP),
Cody Farmer (1.0 IP),
Reece Gould (1.2 IP) and
Jonathan Martinez (0.2 IP).
Tucker Redden and
Justin Thompson were the only batters to record a hit on the night.
Getting on the scoreboard first was TCU on a sacrifice fly in the second. The Horn Frogs tacked on to their lead with two more runs in the fourth and the fifth to go up 5-0.
TCU added a run apiece over the next two innings and three more in the eighth to end the game by run-rule.
In both the third and sixth innings, the Bobcats were able to get two runners on but were unable to bring anybody home.
Next for TXST is Rice on Sunday at 7 p.m. to conclude the Shriners College Classic.
