Track and Field Signs Three Student-Athletes

San Marcos, Texas- Texas State director of track and field/cross country John Frazier announced that three women's throwers Alyssa Wilson, Bryanna Wilson, and Utitofon Sam, have signed national letters of intent to join the program in January.
 
"I am very excited to add Alyssa, Bryanna, and Utitofon to our program," Frazier said. "They will join our team this spring and make immediate contributions on and off the track.
 
Frazier coached Alyssa Wilson at UCLA, where she enjoyed a record-setting career and qualified for the 2021 USA Olympic Trials and the 2020 USA Indoor Championships. Wilson finished sixth in the hammer with the fourth-best collegiate throw of all time with a mark of 241'11" at the 2021 USA Olympic Trials. She also advanced to the finals in the discus at the Olympic Trials. In addition, she placed second in the weight throw at the 2020 USA Indoor Championships.
 
Wilson was a six-time First-Team All-America and three-time Second-Team All-America thrower in the shot put, weight throw, discus, and hammer for the Bruins. She was named the 2019 Pac-12 Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year and was the 2019 Women's Athlete of the Meet after winning the discus and finishing second in the shot put and hammer at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships. Wilson was the 2021 Pac-12 Athlete of the Meet after finishing second in the discus and hammer and third in the shot put. She also made history when she won the hammer and shot put and finished second in the discus at the 2018 USATF Junior Nationals. Wilson became the first female to qualify for the World Junior Championships in three throwing events. In addition, she earned a Silver Medal in the hammer at the 2018 World Juniors.
 
Her younger sister, Bryanna, will join her at Texas State. Bryanna comes to Texas State after initially signing at Monmouth. She had 13 top-five finishes in her throwing career at Donnovan Catholic in Toms River, N.J. She placed third in the shot put at the 2020 Indoor Meet of Champions and won the event at the Shore's Coaches Championships in 2021.
 
Utitofon Sam represented Nigeria in the discus at the 2021 World Athletics Under-20 Championships after winning the discus at the 2021 National Sports Festival and finishing in third place at the Nigerian Trials. Her best throw came at the Meet of Champions Grand Prix when she won the discus with a throw of 51.82 meters. She finished fifth in the hammer throw at the Meet of Champions Grand Prix.
