Soccer Faces Appalachian State to Open Sun Belt Championship

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team, the sixth seed, opens the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Monday against 11th seed Appalachian State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Foley Sports Complex.
 
The Bobcats completed the regular season with a 7-7-2 record and went 4-5-1 in conference play while the Mountaineers were 6-10-1 overall and 2-8-0 in the Sun Belt.
 
Monday's first round match will be streamed on ESPN+ with Noah Frary and Shelby Coppedge on the call. Live stats will also be available.
 
Goals2Cure
This season's Goals2Cure initiative sees the Bobcats raise funds for each goal scored at home and shirts sold. The proceeds will be donated to Ovarcome. Fans are also encouraged to donate directly at this link.
 
About Texas State
The Bobcats concluded the regular season with a 3-1 loss to ULM. Netting the lone goal for TXST was Zoe Junior for her first collegiate tally.
 
Kiara Gonzales leads Texas State with four goals and Mya Ulloa has a team-high five assists, all of which have come in Sun Belt action. The duo has combined to take 79 shots with 35 being on frame. Three assists apiece belong to Bailey Peschel, Kamaria Williams and Gonzales.
 
Beth Agee has made 12 starts between the posts and sports a 1.25 GAA with 56 saves and a .789 save percentage. Having made five appearances in goal is Katelyn Chrisman. The freshman has a 1.09 GAA with 15 saves and a .750 save percentage.
 
About Appalachian State
Appalachian State ended the regular season on a high note with victories at home over Little Rock (2-1) and Louisiana (2-0). The Mountaineers are 2-5-1 on the road this year with a 0-5-0 mark versus Sun Belt opponents.
 
Breckyn Monteith leads APP with eight goals, 16 points, 26 shots, 19 shots on goal and three match-winning goals. Also finding the back of the net multiple times has been Carly Lantz and Kirsten Seeley with three and two, respectively.
 
Pacing the team with seven assists is Sarah Widderich. Others with multiple assists are Stephanie Barbos (2) and Audrey Viso (3).
 
In goal, Kerry Eagleston has started all 17 matches and played 1,526:51 minutes of a possible 1,548:59 minutes. She has a 1.36 GAA having allowed 23 goals while making 100 saves with a .813 save percentage. Her save total is tied for the 13th most in the nation.
 
All-Time Series
Texas State leads the all-time series 5-1-1. The Bobcats won the regular season meeting 1-0 on the road with the lone goal coming from Ulloa when she put back her own rebound on a penalty kick attempt. TXST has won the last four meetings, all by shutout, and are undefeated in the previous five matches.
 
The only draw was a 1-1 contest on Sept. 23, 2016 in Boone that saw Kassi Hormuth score the tying goal exactly three minutes into the second half. Only loss the Bobcats have suffered to the Mountaineers came on the road on Oct. 4, 2015 by a 5-0 score.
 
Monday's match will be the first time the teams have met in the Sun Belt Championship.
