Bobcats to host Houston in spring 2021 season opener

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State tennis program will open its spring schedule at home against Houston at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex in San Marcos.

Although the Bobcats had one fall tournament, this will be their first dual match since March 2020 when the Bobcats were about to enter Sun Belt Conference play with a 5-5 overall record.

This past fall, TXST claimed six wins at the Texas A&M Invitational, highlighted by the dynamic duo of seniors Rishona Israel-Lewis and Hana Kvapilova. In that mock dual tournament, R. Israel-Lewis and Kvapilova each had a win in singles play.

"I am super excited to finally be back in a dual situation since last March," said head coach Tory Plunkett. "This is probably one of the best teams I have had in about a decade and I have a phenomenal coaching staff that will make a huge difference in our development this season. The team chemistry has been great

SCOUTING TEXAS STATE
The Bobcats will return seven student-athletes from the 2019-20 season, including R. Israel-Lewis and Kvapilova, who ended the shortened 2019-20 season by becoming the first duo in program history to be ranked in the ITA national rankings in doubles (No. 62).

In addition to last year's returners, the Bobcats added graduate student Nikita Pradeep who was a standout player at UC Davis. Pradeep is an All-Big West Conference First Team selection. In 2019, Pradeep won 12 consecutive singles matches on her home court, dating back to 2018.

SCOUTING HOUSTON
