Bobcats Host Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State

SAN MARCOS – After posting its first Sun Belt Conference win last Saturday, the Texas State women's basketball team (8-12, 1-8 Sun Belt) faces one of the top two teams in the Sun Belt when it hosts Coastal Carolina (17-3, 7-2) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, in Strahan Arena. The Bobcats also host Appalachian State (6-14, 3-6 Sun Belt) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
 
ESPN+ televises both games with Brant Freeman (play-by-play) and Suzanne Fox (analyst) calling the action. Clint Shields will provide radio play-by-play coverage on 89.9 KTSW and txstatebobcats.com.

  • Sophomore forward Da'Nasia Hood was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after netting a career-high 28 points and seven rebounds against UT Arlington last Saturday. Hood leads the team in scoring and ranks 10th in the Sun Belt, averaging 13.25 points per game. She is listed fourth among Sun Belt leaders in scoring (15.9 ppg) during league only games. Her 42.1 field goal percentage (56-133) ranks seventh, and her 38.3 three-point field goal percentage (23-60) is second in conference games.
 
  • Sophomore guard Kennedy Taylor's 5.8 assists per game leads the Sun Belt Conference. She ranks 13th nationally in assists per game and is second among sophomores behind Haylee Andrews (Portland, 5.9 APG).
 
  • Twin sister senior guards Brooke and Bailey Holle are tied for fifth among on the Sun Belt steal leaderboard with 1.95 steals per game. Bailey had one steal against UTA, while Brooke has notched two steals in each of the last three games.
 
  • Brooke is attempting to become the 19th player in Texas State women's basketball history to accumulate 1,000 career points. She has scored 921 points during her four seasons and needs to average 8.8 ppg over the last nine regular-season games to reach the milestone.
 
  • Brooke has made 123-of-382 (32.2 percent) of her three-point attempts during her career, which is the ninth most made treys on Texas State's career charts. Kelsey Krupa (2008-12) is next on the list to pass and hit 124 threes.
 
  • Bailey leads the team and ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in three-point field goal percentage (36.6%, 26-for-71). She's shooting 42.9-percent (15-for-35) from long distance during conference-only games, good enough for second among league leaders.
 
  • Defensively the Bobcats rank in the top half of the Sun Belt, allowing 63.2 ppg (5th), a .395 opponent field goal percentage (5th), and generate 8.8 steals per game (5th). Last season the Bobcats finished the year as the league's fourth-best defensive team allowing 62.0 ppg. TXST is second in the league in assists per game (13.5) and assists to turnover ratio (0.9). The Bobcats have limited their turnovers this year and are second in turnover margin (+3.3).
 
  • Head coach Zenarae Antoine is in her ninth season and has amassed 133 wins. She is the fourth head coach in program history to reach that total and needs five wins to tie Linda Sharp (1989-97) for third-most victories in school history.
 
Last Time Out
  • Texas State scored a season-best 31 points in the fourth quarter and came back to defeat UT Arlington 72-55. The Bobcats trailed 44-41 through the first three quarters before they rallied back for their first Sun Belt Conference win.

Scouting Appalachian State
  • Appalachian State enters Thursday's game at UT Arlington with a two-game winning streak after defeating Georgia State (65-37) and Georgia Southern (83-75).
 
  • Junior guard Pre Stanley leads the team averaging 14.3 points per game. Senior center Bayley Plummer is averaging 11.9 rebounds per game
 
  • Head coach Angel Elderkin is in her sixth season in Boone, N.C.
 
Series History vs. Coastal Carolina
  • The series began Dec. 29, 2016, when Coastal Carolina joined the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State won the first meeting, 83-62, in Strahan Arena.
 
  • Texas State has won three of its last four contests against Coastal Carolina.
 
  • The two teams split last year's two games, with each team winning on their home court. Texas State won 73-58 on Jan. 10 in Strahan Arena.
