Bobcats Fall in Sun Belt Conference Third Round

PENSACOLA, Florida – The Texas State women's basketball team fell to South Alabama, 69-59, in the third round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship Thursday. With the loss, the Bobcats end their season 11-19 overall and 7-11 in conference play.

KP Parr led TXST scorers with 15 points, including 7-of-9 from the free throw line, while also adding a team-high six assists. Kyra Anderson was the team's leading rebounder with 13, her second-best outing of the season behind 15 against Georgia State on January 31.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a first quarter that saw South Alabama lead by as many as eight after an opening basket from Kyra Anderson, Texas State outscored USA in the second quarter 14-6 and led at the half after the hot-shooting second quarter. Anderson scored eight points on 3-of-3 shooting and 2-for-2 from the line in the second. Defensively, the Bobcats held USA to 17% from the field in the frame on 2-of-12 shooting and 0-for-5 from three. TXST held the Jaguars scoreless from the field over the final 4:31 to head to the locker room with the 29-24 lead.

USA came out and outscored the Bobcats, 25-8, in the third on 65% shooting and went up by as many as 14 with 1:33 to play. TXST pulled within one thanks to a three-pointer from Deja Jones with 5:59 to play in the game, but USA kept the lead outscoring the Bobcats 16-7 over the remainder of the game.
