SAN MARCOS, Texas –Texas State (2-1) swept through singles play to secure a 6-1 victory vs. the University of the Incarnate Word (1-1) in its home opener Saturday morning at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Juniors
Hana Kvapilova and
Rishona Israel-Lewis improve to 3-0 on the top doubles court as they defeated senior Sara Djurdjevic and junior Alejandra Landaluce, 6-0. The Cardinals would take the double point, however, with a 6-2 win on court No. 2 and a come-from-behind 7-6 (5-0) victory on flight No. 3. Both teams entered singles play tied at 1-1 after UIW pulled its player on court No. 6. Junior

Knotted at one point, the Bobcats took the lead when Junior
Andrea Fuchs defeated senior Alejandra Tamayo in straight-sets, 6-1, 6-1 on flight No. 4. R. Israel-Lewis blanked Landaluce (6-0, 6-0) on court No. 2, and for the second consecutive match, Kvapilova clinched the match by defeating senior Jelena Dordan, 6-1, 6-3 on the top single court.
Texas State cashed in two more victories thanks to sophomore
Josefina Cassara taking care of freshman Sophia Kermet on court No. 3, 6-2, 6-1, and sophomore
Renata Gonzalez's 6-4, 7-5 win on court No. 5 vs. sophomore Taylor Parkinson.
Texas State will have a week off before its 11 a.m. match on Sunday, Feb. 9 vs. Prairie View A&M at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
