Women’s Golf Signs Two for 2020 Class

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's golf head coach Par Nilsson announced the signings of Matilda Cederholm and Junia Gabasa to a national letter of intent.

"I am very excited to add Matilda and Junia to our team," said Nilsson. "They will both contribute significantly on and off the golf course."

Cederholm is a native of Lomma, Sweden. She will arrive to San Marcos from ProCivitas Private High School. This year she has earned Barseback's Junior Golfer of the Year and was the Women's Club Champion.

In 2019, Cederholm played in 14 tournaments and recorded nine top 10 finishes with four victories. She carded an average score of 74 per round.

"Matilda is a powerful player with the ability to shoot low scores," Nilsson said. "She is a very motivated and positive person that will add a lot to our team."

Gabasa is from Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines and currently attends Wellspring Christian Family School in Sabillasville, Maryland. Back in February, she won the 24th Annual WExpress RVF Cup Amateur Open. Gabasa followed with a sixth-place finish in the Philippine Amateur Open Golf Championship.

Her best 54-hole score came at the 2018 Bubba Conlee Golf Championship, held in Bartlett, Tennessee, where she carded an even-par 216 to finish in a tie for 11th. That same year saw Gabasa place third at the Southeast Asia Amateur Team Championship in the Kartini Division.

"Junia has a lot of experience playing tournaments around the world," said Nilsson. "She has an exceptional short game and is a great putter. Junia is a very mature, smart player that will have an immediate impact on our team."
