SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's golf head coach
Par Nilsson announced the hiring of
Kari Bellville to his staff as an assistant coach.
"I am excited to add Kari to our team! She has great experience playing for two Power 5 golf programs while bringing high energy, a positive attitude and a plethora of golf knowledge," said Nilsson. "Having played so recently, she will really be able to relate to our players and help them reach their goals."
Bellville arrives in San Marcos from Indiana University where she served as the Hoosier's graduate assistant coach for the 2019 fall season. During that time, she helped the Hoosiers post four top 10 team finishes and coached freshman Valerie Clancy to a third-place finish at the Cardinal Classic. Bellville graduated in December with a master's in sports administration and management.
"First I would like to thank Coach Nilsson for the opportunity to join the Bobcat program and help build upon what he has started this past fall," Bellville said. "This team is on the brink of success and it is exciting to be able to join the staff during this exponential time. I am very excited for the program's future and to do all that I can to help this program succeed."
The Granger, Indiana native completed her collegiate career last season at Indiana where she finished in the top 25 five times. Bellville helped the Hoosiers to a second-place finish at the Big 10 Championship and qualify for the postseason through the East Lansing Regional. At the Michigan State hosted regional, she was second on the IU squad with a 4-over par 220 to help the team to secure a bid to the 2019 NCAA National Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Bellville would go on to post a career low 74.97 average per round for the 2018-19 season.
In 2018, Bellville graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor's degree in marketing. She competed three years for the Fighting Irish women's golf team and averaged 77.52 strokes per 18 holes spanning 56 rounds. In the summer of 2015, she qualified as the first alternate for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship from the Grosse Ile sectional in Michigan.
Bellville was a four-year letter winner and served as team captain in both golf and soccer at Penn High School in Mishawaka, Ind. She was ranked 33rd by Golfweek, 54th by Junior Golf Scoreboard and was a four-time All-American selection on Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT), earning first team honors in 2009-10 and 2011-12. In 2011, Bellville was the North and South Champion that was contested on the Courses of Pinehurst.
The Bobcats begin the Spring portion of their schedule with the Texas State Invitational on Feb. 10-11 at the Plum Creek Golf Club in Kyle, Texas.
