Texas State finishes second in record-setting weekend

SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – The Texas State women's golf finished with runner-up honors for the second-consecutive tournament after shooting an 850 (282-281-287, 14-under) at The Preserve Golf Club during the Mountain View Collegiate over the weekend.

The second-place finish is the best finish for the Bobcats at the Mountain View Collegiate. Texas State previously finished third in 2013. The team total of 850 shatters the previous low-mark set by the Bobcats during the 2015 Mountain View (868).

Texas State toppled three team in the top-50 of the most recent Golfstat rankings: No. 28 Washington, No. 31 Houston, and No. 34 Oregon State.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH STROM
"I am so thrilled for this crew," head coach Lisa Strom said. "The players and coaches gave it their all this week. We set new team records and had a blast doing it. This gives everyone a glimpse of how good this team is and can be. We competed against some of the top teams in the country and did not back down."

"I am excited that we seem to be hitting our stride at this point in the season," Strom said. "We are getting more comfortable shooting under par as a team and making big steps forward being in charge of ourselves out there. We are looking forward to getting back to San Marcos and ready for Lamar."

ROUND ONE QUICK HITS
- Junior Geraldine Wong turned in the lowest scorecard in the tournament after the first 18 holes with a score of 68 (4-under). After starting her round on the tee box at No. 10, Wong birdied four of her first nine holes. She totaled six birdies during the round.
- Senior Anne-Charlotte Mora finished one stroke behind Wong with a 69 (3-under). She converted five birdie opportunities.
- Junior Sean Yi Yip gave the Bobcats a trio of golfers under par in the first round. She shot a 71 (1-under) and matched Mora with five birdies.
- Senior Sarah White shot a 74 (2-over), while junior Sasikarn Somboonsup fired a 76 (4-over). White tallied a par of birdies and Aom notched one birdie.

ROUND TWO QUICK HITS
- After getting a feel for the course in round one, White came out firing in the second round of play. She tallied five birdies in the round and led the Bobcats with a score of 68 (4-under).
- Mora added four more birdies to her total for the weekend and finished the round with a score of 69 (3-under) for the second-straight day.
- Somboonsup rallied from a tough first day to score a 71 (1-under) on day two. She matched White for the team lead with five birdies.
- Both Yip and Wong fired scores of 73 (1-over) in the middle round of action. Wong knocked in four birdies, while Yip contributed three birdies to the team score.

ROUND THREE QUICK HITS
- Aom turned in her best scorecard of the weekend after shooting a 69 (3-under) in the final round. She converted five birdie opportunities, including three on the back nine.
- White added her second-straight under-par performance on the course. She carded a 71 (1-under) with four birdies. She closed out her round with three birdies in five holes from No. 13 through No. 17.
- Mora charted a 73 (1-over) in the final round and tallied three birdies. Yip fired a 74 (2-over) with a pair of birdie putts.
- Wong finished the tournament with a final round of 76 (4-over). She notched a birdie on No. 13.
