SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team returns home to host its first two official Sun Belt Conference matches at the Bobcat Tennis Complex when the Bobcats host Louisiana on Mar. 23 and ULM on Mar. 24. Both matches begin at 10 a.m. This season marks the first time in Sun Belt Conference history that women's tennis teams are playing true conference schedules.
TEXAS STATE vs. LOUISIANA
Texas State (4-7) went 0-2 in its first two Sun Belt matches when the Bobcats were forced to play with five players. Texas State fell 4-1 at Troy on Mar. 16 and 7-0 at South Alabama on Mar. 17. The two losses came after the Bobcats won their previous home match 4-3 over Missouri State on Mar. 10.
Louisiana (6-7, 1-1 in Sun Belt) plays road matches at Texas State and UTA on Saturday and Sunday after splitting its first two Sun Belt home matches when the Ragin' Cajuns fell 4-3 against Georgia Southern on Mar. 16 and beat Georgia State 5-2 on Mar. 16.
Both Texas State and Louisiana boast two of the top three No. 1 singles players in the Sun Belt this season. Texas State's
Ana Perez enters Saturday's matchup with an 8-3 overall record this season after she opened league play splitting her first two matches.
Louisiana's Floriane Picaut begins this weekend with a 7-3 overall record after winning both of her matches against Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
LOOKING AT ULM
ULM (7-1, 2-0 in Sun Belt) enters this Saturday's match at UT Arlington with a seven-match winning streak after opening the season with a 7-0 loss at Arkansas. The Warhawks opened their Sun Belt schedule with a pair of 4-3 victories against Georgia Southern and Georgia State last Saturday and Sunday in Monroe. The two wins also put ULM in a tie with Troy, South Alabama and Appalachian State for first place in the Sun Belt standings.
WHAT'S NEXT
Texas State continues its Sun Belt schedule at Georgia State on Mar. 30 and at Georgia Southern on Mar. 31. The Bobcats host Arkansas State on April 6 and UTA on April 9. Texas State closes out the regular season at Coastal Carolina on April 13 and at Appalachian State on April 14 before playing in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament April 18-21 at Peachtree, Ga.
