Pearson, Nottingham receive All-Sun Belt honors

NEW ORLEANS– Junior guard Nijal Pearson and senior guard Tre'Larenz Nottingham garnered All-Sun Belt selections for the 2018-19 season announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Pearson was tabbed first team while Nottingham was named to the third team.
 
Pearson earned with his second All-Sun Belt selection after being placed on the third team last year. He becomes the second Bobcat to receive first team honors, joining former teammate Kavin Gilder-Tilbury (2016-17). The Beaumont, Texas native concluded the regular season ranked in the top 10 of the league in scoring (No. 9, 17.1 ppg), 3-point field goal percentage (No. 3, 39.7), 3-point field goals made (No. 3, 79), tied at No. 5 in steals (1.4 spg), and ranks No. 10 in minutes played with an average of 33.1 per game. Pearson's 43.4 field goal percentage ranks No. 12 in the conference and also ranks No. 19 in rebounding (5.0 rpg).
 
The 2018-19 Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team recipient turned in a historic season as he climbed up the record books. Pearson became the program's all-time leader in games started (100), ranks No. 2 with 174 career made 3-pointers, including 79 this year (tied No. 3 in single-season record book), and jumped to No. 5 on the all-time scoring list with 1,509 points.
 
Nottingham becomes the fourth Bobcat to earn All-Sun Belt honors. The Morena Valley, Calif. native ranks No. 18 among the league's scoring leaders averaging 13.6 points, No. 3 in total made 3-pointers (78), No. 5 in 3-point field goal percentage (30.7), and No. 9 in total steals (39). His 78 made 3-pointers this season is tied for No. 4 in the program's history and his 124-career made 3-pointers comes in at No. 8 all-time for Texas State.
 
Texas State will head to New Orleans to compete in the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 4 seed. The Bobcats earned a bye to the quarterfinal round and will take the floor at 5 p.m. March 15 at the Lakefront Arena to face either No. 5 Louisiana, No. 8 South Alabama or No. 9 Arkansas State. The Jaguars and Red Wolves square off at 7 p.m. March 12 in Mobile, Ala. and the winner of that game will meet the Ragin' Cajuns at 5 p.m. March 14 in New Orleans.
