Texas State places 10th at the ICON Invitational

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The Texas State women's golf team finished 10th out of 15 teams with a three round score of 899 (297-301-301, +35) in the ICON Invitational at the Tournament Course at the Woodlands Country Club on Tuesday.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH STROM
"Unfortunately we did not take advantage of some great play yesterday," head coach Lisa Strom said. "We did not get off to a good start this morning when finishing the second round. There is always something to learn from these situations. I am proud of Aom and how she managed her way around the golf course this week. Mentally she is so strong and she does a great job of letting things go."

ROUND ONE QUICK HITS
- Senior Anne-Charlotte Mora highlighted the first round of play for the Bobcats. She carded seven birdies in the round, including each of her last three holes. She shot a 71 (one-under).
- Senior Sarah White finished the round with tally 74 (two-over). She birdied two holes in the opening round of play.
- Junior Sasikarn Somboonsup was the most consistent golfer on the course for TXST through the first 18 holes. She turned in a scorecard with a team-best 14 pars. She connected on a birdie putt on the par-4 No. 5. Aom finished the round at 75 (3-over).
- Both junior Sean Yi Yip and sophomore Geraldine Wong finished at 77 (5-over). Yip tallied a pair of birdies, while Wong carded one birdie.

ROUND TWO QUICK HITS
- Somboonsup paced the Bobcats with a 73 (1-over) and carded a team-best four birdies. She was 2-under for the back nine.
- Mora finished the round at 74 (2-over) with a trio of birdies, while Yip holed three birdies of her own and concluded the round with a score of 76 (4-over).
- Wong closed out the Bobcat scoring in the second round with a final tally of 78 (6-over) and one birdie. White shot a 79 (7-over) with one birdie.
- Play was suspended towards the end of the second round due to darkness.

ROUND THREE QUICK HITS
- Somboonsup led the Bobcats for the second-straight round after shooting an even par 72. She birdied two of her first four holes before knocking in a birdie on her 17th hole of the round to drop to even.
- Mora finished the tournament with a final round tally of 75 (3-over) and three birdies. She notched 13 birdies for the tournament, the second most by an individual in the field.
- White, Yip and Wong each fired a 77 (5-over) in the final round. Wong carded one birdie and White knocked in three birdies.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats will have a quick turnaround before traveling to College Station, Texas for a one-day dual with the Texas A&M Aggies on March 2.

"Our prep work for this week was great and we will get back after it on Thursday as we prepare for our match against Texas A&M on Saturday," Strom said. "Match play is fun an exciting. I am looking forward to a little different format for the team."
