THOUGHTS FROM COACH STROM
"Although our finish does not show it, we made some really great strides this week," head coach
Lisa Strom said. "Beating our team average by seven shots per round gives us great feedback that we are headed in the right direction. Being the first event of the spring, we will learn from this and gear up for the next event."
ROUND ONE QUICK HITS
Texas State held a share of the lead following the first 18 holes of play. As a team, TXST shot 282 (2-under) to keep pace with Oral Roberts atop the leaderboard.
Senior
Anne-Charlotte Mora highlighted a prolific first round for the Bobcats. After scoring a bogey on three-consecutive holes, she rebounded to tally a birdie on six of her final 12 holes. She sank birdie putts on four-straight holes in the back nine to finish the round with a team-best 68 (3-under).
Junior
Sasikarn Somboonsup gave Texas State a second golfer under par in the opening round. She converted birdie opportunities on No. 2 and No. 16 to finish the round at 70 (1-under).
Senior
Sarah White finished the first round at 71 (even) after four birdies and four bogeys. She carded birdies in three-of-four holes on the back nine.
Junior
Sean Yi Yip knocked home three birdie putts and finished round one at 73 (2-over).
Sophomore
Geraldine Wong nabbed two birdies and finished at 75 (4-over) in the opening round.
As individuals, freshman
Caitlyn Lindell shot a 75 (4-over) with one birdie, while sophomore
Sachika Singh carried a 78 (7-over) with a pair of birdies into the second round.
ROUND TWO QUICK HITS
White continued her strong day in the second round with a team-best 70 (1-under). She holed a trio of birdies in the front nine and added a fourth after the turn.
Both Yip and Somboonsup carded rounds of 72 (1-over). Aom tallied three birdies, while Yip netted one birdie with a team-high 15 pars.
Mora played an uneven second round with three birdies and six bogeys and turned in a scorecard of 74 (3-over). Wong played well for 16 holes in the second round but ran into trouble to open the back nine. She was a combined 5-over on No. 10 and 11 and finished with a round score of 77 (6-over).
Lindell and Singh both finished the day with scores of 79 (9-over).
ROUND THREE QUICK HITS
The gusting winds made play much tougher than the first two rounds for the Bobcats as the team converted just seven total birdies in the final round.
White turned in the most consistent card with a team-high 14 pars to her credit. She converted six-consecutive even holes on both the front and back nine, while finishing her day with a birdie on No. 18 on her way to a 73 (2-over).
Mora knocked home a pair of birdie attempts and finished the round with a 76 (5-over). Yip added one birdie to the team total and concluded the tournament with a third-round score of 79 (8-over).
Somboonsup finished with an 82 (11-over) to round out the scoring, while Wong tallied an 83 (12-over). Singh, 77 (6-over), and Lindell, 80 (9-over), both competed as individuals.
"We are not afraid to work hard, so we will get back after it," Strom said. "We will continue to put in the time with our short game and ball striking."
