SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team (7-7, 2-0 Sun Belt) will open the home portion of the Sun Belt Conference slate with games against Coastal Carolina (8-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) and Appalachian State (7-6, 1-1 Sun Belt). TXST opens the weekend with a 7 p.m. game on Jan. 10 against CCU. The game will broadcast on ESPN+. Game two will tip at 2 p.m. against APP on Jan. 12.
The Bobcats enter the weekend riding a season-best three-game winning streak. The first of three victories came in a historic defeat of Texas A&M International, winning by a score of 89-25. The 25 points scored by the Dustdevils marked the lowest single-game scoring output by a TXST opponent since Our Lady of the Lake managed 25 points in a Bobcat victory on Feb. 21, 1973. Texas State began Sun Belt Conference play with back-to-back road victories for the first time since the 2014-15 season after wins over Georgia Southern, 64-52, and Georgia State, 69-60.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE
Senior guard
Toshua Leavitt was named the National Mid-Major Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for her outstanding play in the Peach State. In a two-game stretch against Georgia Southern and Georgia State, Leavitt tallied 56 points on 11-of-17 shooting from behind the 3-point line. She registered a career-best 35 points in the victory over the Panthers, the highest individual output by a Sun Belt women's basketball player this season and the largest scoring outburst by a Bobcat since
Taeler Deer scored 44 points in the 2017-18 season opener. Leavitt now leads the Sun Belt in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per ball game. She leads the league with six 20-point games and is one-of-four players to tally 30-plus points in a game this season.
Junior guard
Brooke Holle made her presence felt in the two-game road swing. She averaged 12.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in the two Bobcat victories. Against the Panthers, Holle came up huge. She recorded her fourth career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. She also dished out a career-best six assists.
With a career record at Texas State of 118-116, head coach
Zenarae Antoine is fourth in program history in career victories. She trails Suzanne Fox (174), Judy Rinker (145) and Linda Sharp (138) on the all-time list.
SCOUTING COASTAL CAROLINA
The Chanticleers dropped the first two games of league play at home against Troy (82-81) and South Alabama (88-80). CCU play an up-tempo style of game with high-volume possessions. Coastal scored 81.4 points per night, the second-highest figure in the conference. They vacuum up a staggering 48.2 rebounds per contest, including 18.9 offensive misses per game. Coastal has posted the conference's two highest scoring games this season with a 128-39 win over Meredith and a 126-65 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan.
Junior guard DJ Williams leads the Chants and is second in the league in scoring, averaging 18.1 points per outing despite not starting a single game for Coastal this season. Williams also adds 7.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. She has reached 20-plus points three times the season and has scored at least 12 points in 10-of-11 games played. Junior guard Caitlin Roche chips in 16.5 points per game, giving the Chanticleers the highest scoring duo in the Sun Belt. Roche is CCU's lone 3-point threat as she is the only player on the roster to make more than seven triples this season. She has made 42-of-106 (39.6 percent) of her attempts.
SCOUTING APPALACHIAN STATE
The Mountaineers split their two games during the opening weekend of conference play, handing South Alabama its first loss of the season, 71-63, before falling to Troy, 83-72. APP has played three Power-5 conference opponents this season, losing to Georgia Tech (71-53), South Carolina (80-50) and Clemson (87-48). The Mountaineers play a more physical brand of basketball, relying less on the 3-point shot. Once again, TXST will be tested on the glass as APP averages 45.0 rebounds per game, 5.5 more than their opponent. Junior center Bayley Plummer leads the league with 10.9 rebounds per contest.
Appalachian State rosters two double-figure scorers in sophomore guard Pre Stanley and senior guard Madi Story. Stanley leads the team with 11.6 points per game, while Story adds 11.0 points per contest.
UP NEXT FOR THE BOBCATS
Texas State will face a tough two-game road test with games at Little Rock and Arkansas State. The matchup with the Trojans will be broadcast on ESPN+ and is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. tip on Jan. 17 from the Jack Stephens Center. Tip is slated for 4 p.m. on Jan. 19 against the Red Wolves.
