Texas State Tennis Team Hosts Presbyterian and Prairie View A&M

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team (2-1) returns to the Bobcat Tennis Complex this Friday to play their first two home dual matches of the 2018-19 season when the Bobcats host Presbyterian College on Friday at 1 p.m. and Prairie View A&M on Sunday at 10 a.m.
 
The Bobcats began this spring winning two of its three road matches last weekend when Texas State defeated LSU-Alexandria 7-0 on January 25 and beat Nicholls 6-1 on January 26. Texas State dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision at Xavier-Louisiana on January 27.
 
Presbyterian (3-1) enters Friday's match following three consecutive sweeps after opening the season dropping a 4-1 decision at Clemson on Jan. 20. The Blue Hose won 7-0 at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro and North Carolina Central in Raleigh on Jan. 26 after beating Lees-McRae in Clemson, S.C. on Jan. 20.
 
Prairie View A&M (0-3) will play a match at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday afternoon before playing at Texas State on Sunday. The Panthers suffered losses at Sam Houston State, Baylor and UTA.
 
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Texas State began the 2018-19 season winning two of their first three road matches for the first time since 2011-12 when the Bobcats finished that season with a 5-3 mark on the road and were 14-6 overall.
 
Julia Navajo-Melendez and Joy Chia Ming Ming were Texas State's top singles players after both posted 3-0 records last week. Navajo-Melendez won all three of her No. 3-seeded matches and Chia Ming Ming won her matches at No. 5 position. Andrea Fuchs and Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez also combined a 3-0 mark in No. 6 matches.
 
Texas State's top two players, Ana Perez and Rishona Israel-Lewis, finished last weekend with 2-1 marks in No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively.
 
The Bobcats also captured the doubles point in the first two matches with Israel-Lewis combining with Josefina Cassara for a 2-0 mark in the No. 2 matches.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
Texas State is playing the first two of seven straight home matches this Friday and Saturday. The Bobcats host Northwestern State on Feb. 10, McNeese State on Feb. 16, Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 17, UTSA on Mar. 9, and Missouri State on Mar. 10.
