Box Score ALEXANDRIA, La. - The Texas State women's tennis team opened its 2019 spring schedule with a 7-0 shutout over LSU-Alexandria on Friday morning at the Alexandria City Courts.
 
The Bobcats began the match capturing the doubles point when Texas State won all three matches. Ana Perez and Joy Chia Ming Ming combined for a 6-1 victory over Miljana Melojevic and Niamh Packer on the No. 1 court. In the No. 3 match, Julia Navajo-Melendez teamed with Andrea Fuchs to defeat Maria Cool and Katheryne Campos by a score of 6-1. Then, Rishona Israel-Lewis and freshman Josefina Cassara captured the No. 2 match by a score of 6-3 over Patricia Perez and Patricia Martinez.
 
In singles play, the Bobcats won all six matches without dropping a set. Texas State clinched the match with victories in the top three-seeded matches.
 
Israel-Lewis earned the first singles point when she beat Patricia Perez by a score of 6-2, 6-0 on the No. 2 court.
 
Ana Perez won the top-seeded match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Melojevic.  Navajo-Melendez clinched the win when she captured the No. 3 match, defeating Packer by a score of 6-4, 6-0.
 
Cassara won her singles match when she posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Cool on the No. 4 court. Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez also won a 6-2, 6-2 decision again Martinez in the No. 6 match.
 
The final match of the day featured a tiebreaker in the second set as Chia Ming Ming won a 6-3, 7-6 triumph over Campos after winning the tiebreaker 9-7 on the No. 5 court.
 
The Bobcats will return to action Saturday morning when they travel to Nicholls State for a non-conference match before closing the road trip with a match at Xavier-New Orleans on Sunday.
