SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State football team travels to San Antonio this Saturday to play a non-conference game against UTSA in the H-E-B I-35 Showdown at the Alamodome beginning at 6 p.m.
The game can be heard on the Texas State Bobcats Sports Network on TuneIn.com, AM 1300 the Zone in Austin, KTSW (FM 89.9) and AM 930 The Answer in San Antonio.

Opening Kickoff
The Bobcats are looking to even their record to 2-2 after suffering a 41-31 loss at South Alabama in the first Sun Belt Conference game of the season. The Roadrunners enter the game looking for their first win after falling 41-17 at Kansas State.
Everett Withers is in his third season as head coach on Texas State's sidelines. Frank Wilson is also in his third year as head coach at UTSA.
SERIES HISTORY
Texas State and UTSA will meet on the gridiron for the third time overall and second time in the Alamodome this Saturday. The Bobcats have a 0-2 series record against the Roadrunners.
Saturday's game marks the second time that the Bobcats will be playing in the Alamodome. The first game was on Nov. 24, 2012, when Texas State's comeback bid in the fourth quarter fell short, and the Bobcats fell 38-31. Last year, the Bobcats suffered a 44-14 loss on Sept. 23 at Bobcat Stadium.
Texas State has a 4-1 record in games played in San Antonio. The Bobcats won three games against Prairie View A&M in 1978-80 and defeated Texas Southern in 1992 at Alamo Stadium before the Alamodome opened. Texas State's lone appearance in the Alamodome before Saturday was in 2012.
Texas State is looking for its second win against Conference USA teams since joining the FBS ranks in 2012 when the Bobcats travel to UTSA. Texas State's first win against a C-USA school was on Aug. 31, 2013 when the Bobcats defeated Southern Miss 22-15 in Hattiesburg.
TEXAS STATE STORYLINES
The Bobcats will strive to win their first road game of the season after falling at Rutgers and South Alabama. Texas State has lost its last four road games dating back to a 27-7 victory at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 28.
Texas State's three fumble recoveries at South Alabama is the highest single-game total in the Sun Belt Conference this season. It is also the most fumbles recovered by the Bobcats since they recovered three at Georgia State in 2016. The three fumble recoveries were by A. J. Krawczyk,
Ishmael Davis and
Markeveon Coleman. A. J. Krawczyk also had a fumble recovery against Texas Southern after Dennis Johnson, Jr. had Texas State's first fumble recovery at Rutgers. Krawczyk's two fumble recoveries lead the Sun Belt and ranks third nationally.
For the second straight year, Texas State is ranked near the top 40 teams nationally in rushing defense. The Bobcats enter the UTSA game ranked 42nd in the nation and second in the Sun Belt after surrendering an average of 123.3 yards per game in the first three contests. Last season, the Bobcats were ranked 40th in the nation, giving up an average of 141.7 yards per game.
Texas State enters the UTSA game listed among the top NCAA leaders in blocked kicks for the third straight year. The Bobcats rank 16th nationally with one blocked kick this season after
London Harris blocked an extra-point attempt at South Alabama. It was the first blocked kick of his career.
Bryan London II had 10 tackles at South Alabama for his first double-digit total this season. London II enters the UTSA game with 28 tackles and that is tied for the second-highest total in the Sun Belt Conference.
JaShon Waddy and
Bryan London II are tied for the Sun Belt lead and tied for third nationally with two forced fumbles this season. Waddy forced two fumbles at South Alabama, while London II had two forced fumbles against Texas Southern on Sept. 8.
Willie Jones III had a career-long, 50-yard run for a touchdown and threw a 42-yard TD pass to
Javen Banks at South Alabama. It is the second straight game in which Jones III has thrown a touchdown pass from 40 or more yards. He also threw a career-long 46-yard TD pass to
Keenen Brown against Texas Southern.
Willie Jones III enters the UTSA game as the only quarterback to be ranked among the top five Sun Belt Conference rushing and passing yardage leaders. He has run for 198 yards and a touchdown on 49 carries and completed 41 of 79 passes for 517 yards and three TDs.
SCOUTING UTSA
UTSA has started the season with a 0-3 record with all three losses coming against Power Five Conference opponents. The Roadrunners began the season with a 49-7 loss at Arizona State, a 37-20 setback against Baylor and a 41-17 loss at Kansas State.
UTSA's offense is led by junior college transfer Cordale Grundy and graduate transfer D.J. Gillins. Grundy has started all three games for the Roadrunners and completed 48 of 89 passes for 452 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. Gillins has thrown for 80 yards and a TD and rushed for another yard.
Senior Jalen Rhodes ranks second with 1,809 career rushing yards and had career-high 174 yards on 15 carries at Texas State last season. Rhodes has rushed for 81 yards on 14 carries this season.
Sophomore rerunning back B.J. Daniels recorded a game-high and career-high 90 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries against Baylor. Daniels leads UTSA with 161 yards and two TDs on 41 rushes.
Greg Campbell leads UTSA with 14 catches for 137 yards and had a season-high 62 yards on four receptions against Baylor. He caught 6 passes for 41 yards and a TD at Kansas State.
Another preseason All-Conference USA selection is Josiah Tauaefa, who leads the Roadrunners with 19 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble.
Defensive lineman Kevin Strong, Jr. is a preseason All-C- USA selection and enters Saturday night with six solo tackles and 1.0 tackles for loss.
Safety Darryl Godfrey also has 91 tackles and leads UTSA with 14 solo stops. He also has 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
UP NEXT
Following the UTSA game, Texas State will have an open week before returning to Sun Belt Conference play and hosting Louisiana on Oct. 6 and Georgia Southern on Oct. 11. The Louisiana contest kicks off at 6 p.m. and will air on ESPN+. The Georgia Southern game will be nationally-televised on ESPNU beginning at 6:30 p.m.
