Game Recap: Texas State Falls at No. 5/4 Texas

AUSTIN – Texas State football opened the 2026 season falling, 59-7, on the road to No. 5/4 Texas in Austin.

Quarterback Brad Jackson was 15-23 passing for 150 yards and added 32 yards on the ground, while Gavin Parkhurst entered the game with five minutes remaining in the third quarter to go 5-6 for 38 yards.

Tucker Cusano led Bobcat receivers with a career day after primarily playing on special teams in 2025. The redshirt-freshman had a team-high 58 yards off three receptions. Biletnikoff Watch List duo Chris Dawn, Jr., and Beau Sparks each had a team-best four receptions registering 40 and 19 yards, respectively.

In the ground game, Torrance Burgess Jr. had 12 carries for 34 yards, a total that matched Jaylen Jenkins (6 carries). Newcomer Davian Jackson played in his first-career game after transferring over from Mississippi State and wasted no time picking up his first career TD, A four-yard run.

Defensively, Terrence Cooks II led the Bobcats with eight tackles, including one TFL, while Tymere Jackson picked up a sack in his season debut and Ryan Nolan picked off Arch Manning in the endzone for the first interception of his career.
