Bobcats finish fifth at the Lady Maxwell Invitational

ARDMORE, Okla. – The Texas State's women's golf team took fifth place at the Lady Maxwell Invitational after shooting 907 (+55) as a team at the par-71 6,037-yard Dornick Hills Golf and Country Club through three rounds of play.

"Sachika had a nice day today," head women's golf coach Lisa Strom said. "Her ball striking has improved over the past 12 months. Sarah got off to a solid start, but miscues with her wedges and 9-irons cost her. Overall, our top three returners did not have their best stuff this week. This was not the start we had envisioned for the season, but we are going to work hard over the next three weeks in preparation for the Schooner Classic. Getting Geraldine Wong back from the World Amateurs will add much needed depth to the lineup."

I-35 archrival UTSA took the team championship, shooting an 876 (+24) for the weekend. The Roadrunners bested the Sam Houston State Bearkats by eight strokes for the team title. SHSU's Jenna Phillips secured the individual title after shooting a 214 (+1). UTSA's Hannah Holzmann held down runner-up honors after compiling a three-round score of 215 (+2).

Round One
In the first round, the Bobcats were led by Sasikarn Somboonsup. The junior carded a trio of birdies in the opening 18 holes of the tournament to shoot a 73 (+2). Sarah White holed two eagles for the day, giving her a score of 76 (+5). Sean Yi Yip stood t-21st after shooting a 77 (+6). Anne-Charlotte Mora, golfing in the second spot of the Bobcat lineup, fired two birdies on her way to an 80 (+9) to round out the team score. Sachika Singh finished t-38th with a round one score of 82 (+11). As an individual, Caitlyn Lindell tied with White for 17th after shooting a 76 (+5).

Round Two
Mora moved up 26 spots in the standings in the second round by firing a 68 (-3) on Saturday. The senior highlighted the Bobcat round with five birdies and sat in a tie for seventh place. White also climbed a couple spots in the standings, moving up to t-13th after shooting 75 (+4) in the second round. Singh turned in a card of 78 (+7), Yi Yip tallied a second-round score of 79 (+8) and Somboonsup shot an 82 (+11). Once again competing as an individual, Lindell shot an 84 (+13).

Round Three
Singh led the way for the Bobcats in the final round. The sophomore shot a team-low 72 (+1) to bring her round total to 232 (+19). White, 226 (+13), and Yi Yip, 231 (+18) each shot a 75 (+4) in the final frame. Mora, 227 (+14) and Somboonsup, 234 (+21), struggled to close out the tournament as both shot 79 (+8) in the last round.
