Box Score LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas State softball team (40-14, 18-5 SBC) were no-hit against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (38-13, 21-6 SBC) in the semifinal game of the 2018 Sun Belt Conference Championship at Lamson Park on Friday. Host Louisiana edged the Bobcats by a score of 1-0.
For the first time since 2016, Texas State failed to record a hit in a game. The last time the Bobcats were no-hit came in a combined effort from Louisiana in the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Championship title game. The Cajuns won the game 12-0 in five innings.
The Bobcats placed one runner on board, a two-out walk in the bottom of the third inning from
Christiana McDowell. Unfortunately, one pitch later she was called out for leaving first base early on a stolen base attempt.
In the circle,
Randi Rupp (26-10) pitched masterfully, allowing just two hits of her own. The Cajun leadoff hitter, Kelli Martinez, gathered the second hit of the game with a one-out bunt single back towards the pitcher in the top of the sixth inning. She successfully stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error from
Haleigh Davis behind the plate. Kara Gremillion laid down a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt to score Martinez from third.
Rupp struck out one batter and did not yield a walk in the game. The lone run to cross the plate was unearned. The senior has lost five times this season in games in which she did not allow an earned run.
Next up, Texas State will face the winner of the Troy versus UT Arlington matchup in the consolation bracket final. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. from Lamson Park. The winner of the game will head to the title game to take on Louisiana. The championship game will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and will be streamed live on ESPN+. Tickets can be purchased
