Monroe, La. - The Texas State women's tennis team had a winning streak halted when the Bobcats dropped a 4-1 decision against Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana in a neutral site match at Raymond Heard Stadium on Saturday morning.
The Bobcats fell behind 1-0 when the Ragin' Cajuns captured the team point after winning a pair of doubles matches. The match began with
Joy Chia Ming Ming and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez fell 6-2 in the No. 3 contest against Kelly Drew and M Rodriguez Garcia. Then, the Ragin' Cajuns clinched the point when
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez suffered a 6-4 loss against Floriane Picaut and Dana Radovanovic on the No. 2 court.
The Bobcats regained some momentum when Navajo-Melendez won her No. 3 singles duel against Elena Sava in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
But, Louisiana clinched the match when the Ragin' Cajuns won three consecutive singles matches.
Alex Jones suffered a 6-4, 6-2 defeat against Radovanovic on the No. 4 court. Then Picaut defeated Israel-Lewis by a score of 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 match. The final decision came in the No. 6 match where
Andrea Fuchs suffered a 6-2, 7-5 loss against Rodriguez Garcia.
The loss drops Texas State's record to 4-10 this season. The Bobcats will return home to close out the regular season with three straight home matches. The Bobcats host Marquette on March 29 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. Texas State also hosts Sun Belt Conference teams ULM on April 6 and UTA on April 8 before traveling to the Sun Belt Conference Championship on April 19-22 in Peachtree City, Ga.
