Lockwood Ties for 10th at Lone Star Invitational

SAN ANTONIO – Sophomore Logan Lockwood tied for 10th at even par 216 to pace the Texas State men's golf team at the Lone Star Invitational held at the Briggs Ranch Golf Course. The Bobcats finished tied for 11th with McNeese at 23-over par 887.
 
Lockwood matched his season low round of the season with a 69 (-3) in the first round on Monday. He seven birdies on the day with four coming on the back nine. The Van, Texas native followed with a 3-over 75 in the afternoon to sit at even par with 18 holes left to play.
 
The sophomore started Tuesday's final round with a bogey on his first hole, the 13th. He then posted a par and birdie over the next two holes to get back to even par for the round. Lockwood went on to record 15 consecutive pars to conclude the day and wrap up his top 10 finish.
 
For the tournament, Lockwood finished tied for first with Oklahoma's Brad Dalke and UTSA's Zander Lozano on par 4 holes at 4-under par.
 
Calvin Ross claimed his third top 20 finish of the year with a 3-over par 219 to end up in a six-way tie for 18th-place. He struggled in the first round with a 6-over 78 but rebounded with 1-under 71 that saw him post four birdies and pars in an eight-hole stretch. The sophomore concluded the invitational with a 2-under par 70 behind four birdies.
 
Logan Davis tied for 51st at 11-over 227. His best round of the 54-hole event was the in the first with an even par 72 in which he eagled the par 5, 510-yard fifth hole. It was the lone eagle of the tournament for any TXST golfer.
 
Both Inigo Benaran and Alvaro Carol Estrems carded 230 (+13). Both of their best rounds were in the afternoon on Monday when Estrems recorded a 2-over 72 with four birdies and Benaran finished with a 3-over 75 and had two birdies.
 
Winning the team title was 11th-ranked Oklahoma at 15-under par 849. The Sooners finished 17 strokes ahead of Arkansas State. Claiming third was UTEP at 7-over 871.
 
Taking home the individual crown was OU's Dalke, the eighth-ranked player in the nation, at 8-under par 208 after a tournament low 5-under 67 in third round. He beat out the Red Wolves' Jakub Bares by one shot.
 
Next on tap for the Bobcats is the Golden Nugget Invitational in Lake Charles, Louisiana that takes place Mar. 26-27.
