FORT WORTH, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision against TCU on Sunday morning at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The match began with the Horned Frogs winning the doubles point after capturing the top two seeded matches. First,
Rishona Israel-Lewis and
Alex Jones lost 6-2 against Marie Norris and Stevie Kennedy on the No. 2 court.
In the No. 1 match,
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez suffered a 6-3 setback against Donika Bashota and Alexis Pereira.
One of Texas State's bright spots in the match came in the No. 3-seeded doubles match as
Joy Chia Ming Ming and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez were leading 5-4 over Aleksa Cveticanin and Meredith Roberts when the contest was halted.
The Horned Frogs clinched the victory when they won three of the six singles matches. Texas State fell behind 2-0 when Roberts beat Chia Ming Ming by a score of 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 5 match.
Then,
Andrea Fuchs dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Elizabeth Tedford on the No. 6 court. It was the first match played by Fuchs this spring.
The final team point in the match came on the No. 2 court where Navajo-Melendez fell 6-1, 6-2 against Bashota.
After the outcome was decided, the other matches were halted. Perez won her first set against the No. 71-ranked Cveticanin by a score of 6-3 on the No. 1 court. However, the match was stopped with Cveticanin leading 5-2 in the second set.
In the final two matches, Israel Lewis dropped a first-set tiebreaker, 7-1, against Kennedy in the No. 3 match. No. 59-ranked Aleksandra Zenovka was leading Jones 6-3, 5-2 in the No. 4 match when the contest was halted.
Texas State falls to 0-3 this season, while TCU evened its record to 3-3 heading into another match on Sunday against UTRGV.
The Bobcats will look for their first win of the season when Texas State plays a pair of road dual matches at Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State on Feb. 10-11.
