Natchitoches, La. – Playing in their second road match in two days, the Texas State women's tennis team won a pair of singles matches, but was beaten 5-2 at Northwestern State on Monday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

The Bobcats began the day surrendering the doubles point as Northwestern State won a pair of matches. First,
Joy Chia Ming Ming and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez fell 6-0 against Judit Castillo and Ela Iwaniuk on court three. Then,
Ana Perez and
Julia Navajo-Melendez dropped a 6-2 decision against Polina Ivanova and Polina Mutel on court one.

The Bobcats scored their two points with a pair of singles victories on courts four and five. First,
Joy Chia Ming Ming won a three-set decision against Kateryna Avram in the No. 5 match. She captured the first set by a score of 6-4, before dropping the tiebreaker 7-5 in the second set. She came back to outlast Avram in the third set, 11-9, to win the match.

Alex Jones also was victorious in a three-set decision against Ela Iwaniuk on court four. She won the first set by a score of 6-4, but dropped the second set, by a score of 6-2. But, Jones bounced back and was triumphant in the third set, 6-2, to clinch the victory.

In other singles matches,
Julia Navajo-Melendez fell 6-1, 6-2 against Polina Ivanova on court two, and
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez fell short in a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Judit Castillo on court six.

Ana Perez suffered a 6-1, 7-5 loss against Polina Mutel in the top-seeded match and
Rishona Israel-Lewis stumbled in three sets against Emilija Dancetovic on court three. Lewis won the first set by a score of 6-1, before losing the second-set tiebreaker, 7-5, and dropping the third set by a score of 10-4.

Texas State returns to action on Wednesday when the Bobcats are scheduled to play their first home match of the season against Eastern Michigan beginning at 10 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
