Bobcats Battle Trojans in Sun Belt Conference Championship Final

FOLEY, Ala. – After dethroning the five-time defending champions on Friday, the Texas State soccer team will battle Little Rock Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Foley Sports Complex in the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Championship that will be streamed on ESPN+. The winner will earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
The Bobcats enter the match with an 11-5-2 record and are undefeated in their last 12 matches. The Trojans are 13-4-3 on the season with an 8-1-2 record in their last 11 contests.
 
Last Time Out
In the semifinals, TXST played to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes with South Alabama. The Bobcats advanced 4-2 in the penalty kick shootout. Kaylee Davis netted the lone goal for Texas State in regulation also from the penalty kick spot after a penalty in the box. In goal, Heather Martin surrendered a goal in the first half but would go on to make seven saves with all of them coming after halftime.
 
Davis goes into Sunday's match having scored a Sun Belt leading 18 goals. Her total is tied for the most in a season by a Bobcat and is the third most in the nation this season. With one more goal, the Allen, Texas native would not only break the program record but also move into the top 10 in conference history for a single-season.
 
Both Jordan Kondikoff and Genesis Turman are tied for the team lead with five assists. Mackenzie Smith has been credited with four assists while the duo of Haley Groff and Renny Moore have contributed three assists each.
 
Martin has been a dominate presence between the posts this season for Texas State. The junior has allowed either zero or one goal in all 18 appearances. She comes into the championship match with a 0.49 GAA, 86 saves and a .915 save percentage.
 
Scouting Little Rock
Little Rock defeated Georgia State 2-0 in the semifinals to earn its spot in the Sun Belt Championship final. The Trojans opened the championship with a 1-1 draw to Arkansas State before defeating the Red Wolves 4-3 on penalty kicks. LR has recorded seven shutouts against Sun Belt opponents and have won each time.
 
Jaclyn Purvine paces the team with 12 goals and 24 shots on goal. Half of her scores have been match-winners. She also has four assists to her name and is second on the squad with 33 shot attempts. The senior scored both of the Trojans' goals in Friday's win.
 
Arola Aparicio Gili has found the back of the net seven times and assisted on four goals. Doro Greulich has been credited with a team-high seven assists and 61 shots. Coming in with four goals on the season are Fanney Einarsdotri, Liesa Seifert and Greulich. Three of Seifert's goals have come from the penalty spot.
 
Both Morgan Smocovich and Sairra Tucker have four assists. Credited with three assists has been Peyton Laughley and Camilla Olsson.
 
Sara Johannsdottir has started all 20 matches in goal. She has played all but 105:34 minutes between the posts. The freshman enters with a 0.77 GAA having surrendered 15 goals and has .835 save percentage with 76 saves.
 
Series vs. Trojans
Texas State leads the all-time series over Little Rock 5-0-1. The regular season meeting saw the teams play to a 1-1 draw in San Marcos. Davis scored early in the 11th minute for the opening goal but the Trojans answered with a converted penalty kick halfway through the 62nd minute.
 
The past four meetings have all gone to overtime with three of the four reaching the second extra period. Four of the five Bobcat victories have been by a goal. The lone exception was a 4-0 win at home in the first-ever meeting on Oct. 25, 2013.
 
Sunday will be the first-ever match between the programs in the Sun Belt Championship and at a neutral site.
