SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team will be competing in the ITA Texas Regional Championship on Oct. 18-22 (Thursday-Monday) at Texas A&M's George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. The tournament will feature players from 19 schools from around the State of Texas.
 
Texas State will have Joy Chia Ming Ming, Rishona Israel-Lewis, Julia Navajo-Melendez, Ana Perez, Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez, Andrea Fuchs and Josefina Cassara competing in the tournament.
 
The top doubles team and the singles finalists earn an automatic invitation to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona. The tournament, held from Nov. 7-11, features the champions from each of the 12 regions around the country, as well as several at-large bids.
 
All results and tournament draws can be found on the tournament website. Results will be updated on the website at the conclusion of each match.
 
The Bobcats will compete against players from Abilene Christian, Baylor, Houston, Incarnate Word, Lamar, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, the host school Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, UTA, UTSA and UTRGV.
 
The tournament schedule has Texas State playing three doubles matches on Thursday, beginning at 8:45 a.m. The winners of those matches will play another doubles match on Thursday afternoon, if weather permits. Thursday's schedule also features the Bobcats playing in seven singles matches on Thursday morning after the conclusion of their doubles matches.
 
The Bobcats had one doubles match in the round of 64 with Chia Ming Ming and Israel Lewis defeating Kyndall Misak and Vera Carvalho of Stephen F. Austin 6-2. Thye are scheduled to play against Tamuna Kutubidze and Maria Kononova of North Texas at 3:30 p.m.
 
Navajo-Melendez and Perez received a first-round bye and will play Marina Miguel and Camille Townsend of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the round of 32 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
 
Murcia-Rodriguez and Cassara  also received a first-round bye, and are scheduled to face Houston's Phonexay Chitdara and Sophie Gerites at 3:30 p.m.
 
The singles matches have TXST's Murcia-Rodriguez playing against Alexandra Heczey of North Texas. Israel Lewis faces Sara Eleanor Adams of Abilene Christian in another first round match. Cassara will play against Karla De La Luz Montalvo of Sam Houston State, and Perez will battle Ndindi Ndunda of Houston. All four of those matches are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
 
Chia Ming Ming plays against Victoria Kareh of Incarnate Word beginning at 10:30 a.m. Navajo-Melendez faces Mahogani Green of Prairie View A&M and Andrea Fuchs will meet Sam Houston's State's Ema Barkovic beginning at 10:45 a.m.
