COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas State tennis team returns to action on Jan. 26 when the Bobcats travel to Texas A&M for a dual match beginning at noon in the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
Texas State is seeking its first dual-match win of the season after dropping a 4-0 decision at No. 12 Texas on Jan. 20. Texas State's lineup features one senior,
Alex Jones, and three juniors,
Ana Perez,
Julia Navajo-Melendez and
Joy Chia Ming Ming.
Head coach
Tory Plunkett also added four freshmen to Texas State's roster, including
Rishona Israel-Lewis, who was ahead in her No. 3-seeded match at Texas, 6-4, 3-0 against Fernanda Labrana when the contest was halted. The other freshmen include
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez,
Andrea Fuchs and
Flavia Gutierrez-Balcazar.
Texas A&M enters Friday's match with a 2-0 record after posting a pair of 7-0 victories against UTRGV and Prairie View A&M on Jan. 13. The Aggies return three players from last year's team that tied for eighth in the Southeastern Conference and reached the NCAA Championship Round of 16 before falling to No. 1 seed and eventual national champion, Florida. Texas A&M was ranked No. 16 in the final ITA top 25 poll last year.
Following its match against the Aggies, Texas State travels to Tarleton State on Feb. 3 and plays at No. 24 TCU on Feb. 4.
